Founded in 1856, Albright College celebrates a century and a half of a rich academic heritage in the liberal arts and professions and a dynamic, welcoming and collaborative campus community.

On 118 tree-lined acres, Albright is a place that connects people in an open, down-to-earth, collaborative community. With 1,660 undergraduate students, Albright’s small size ensures a 13:1 student/faculty ratio, close student/faculty relationships and an emphasis on the whole individual. Collaboration both in and outside of the classroom means students have extraordinary opportunities to work with, communicate with, and learn -- not only from faculty but many others with different perspectives and experiences.

At Albright, students have the ability to connect fields of study to create an individualized education. Today’s complex world demands the special perspective gained from an education that crosses boundaries to link knowledge, ideas, people and possibilities. Flexible thinkers, open to new ideas and able to commu-nicate are in demand in the job market. Connecting your interests and fields of learning can lead to new career possibilities.

At Albright, half of all students opt for combined or interdisciplinary major -- and still graduate in four years. Last year, students created more than 200 different combinations of majors - from art/biology to psychology/business and sociology/Latin American studies.

But whether you select a single major or combine fields of study, you will find that Albright faculty works closely with every student to create an individualized education that reflects individual talents, interests and career goals.

Albright offers more than 50 areas of study, a broad range of interdisciplinary programs including digital media, information systems, optics, Latin American studies, psychobiology, biochemistry, and environmental studies, and combined concentrations such as music/business for those interested in careers in the music industry. Albright’s long tradition of excellence in the natural sciences and pre-professional programs continues to prepare graduates for medical, dental, and veterinary school.

Undecided about a major? The unique Alpha Program is a structured program that allows students to explore different fields of interest and assess interests and talents before selecting a major (or majors.) Alpha provides academic guidance, activities, evens, peer support, career counseling and coursework in a wide variety of disciplines to help students make an informed choice when the time comes.

About Albright AthleticsThe athletics program at Albright College is geared to student-athletes who love their sport and want the freedom to explore everything college life has to offer.

Albright sponsors 23 sports teams on the varsity level, 11 for men and 12 for women, with more than 30 percent participation of the student body in intercollegiate athletics. The col-lege also supports four established club teams (deck hockey, men’s and women’s rugby, badminton, and ultimate frisbee) and a wide variety of seasonal intramurals.

Albright is a member of the 16-team Middle Atlantic Conference, arguably the nation’s strongest NCAA Division III conference. Because of that, student-athletes at Albright have the rare opportunity to compete on a high level and enjoy the benefits of the small-college environment. In addition to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and MAC, Albright is affiliated with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Albright coaches ask for dedication both on the fields and in the classrooms. Despite the challenge, many Lion athletes earn grade-point averages of 3.0 and above in a variety of pre-professional disciplines and distinctive programs. Clearly, Albright is about academic excellence, first and foremost.

The Albright College Softball Field is located right next to North Hall Field on the west side of campus. The field features two covered and fenced in dugouts and a full working press box and sound system. Fans are able to watch all the action on a two-tier viewing area that overlooks the entire park.

The New Face of Albright Athletics

AlbrightAthletics.comIn the summer of 2009 the Albright College Athletic department signed with Internet Consulting Services to redesign the athletic website. After just a few short weeks, ICS pre-sented Albright with a top-notch website that truly shows what Lions athletics are all about.

Right: A look at the Albright Softball field from the press box which sits right behind home plate. The Albright Softball Field is one of a just a few softball fields in the Commonwealth Conference to have a full working press box and sound system.

Coaching Staff

Izzy TrottierHead Coach - 1st Season

Izzy Trottier is currently in her first season as the head softball coach at Albright College. As head coach Trottier will be respon-sible for all facets of the program including the recruitment of future players, and the organization and implementation of practice and game-day plans.

Trottier came to Albright after three seasons as the assistant coach at Alvernia University. While with the Crusaders, Trottier served as the team’s pitching coach and helped the squad to back-to-back ECAC South Region Tournament appearances (2010 and 2011). During her three seasons, she worked and guided the school’s first female All-American in Rhiannon Sorren-tino. In 2011, Trottier helped the Crusaders pitching staff to a combined 23-13 record and a 2.82 ERA. Her trio of pitchers tallied a total of 175 strikeouts, which was third-most in the Commonwealth Conference.

A native of Canada, Trottier has had a standout career north of the border as part of the Provincial Women’s Softball Association. Amongst her many accom-plishments in Canada was a silver medal in 2007 as a member of the U23 Pickering Heat, and a silver medal in 2005 at the Canada Summer Games as a member of Team Ontario.

As a player, Trottier attended Winthrop University in Rocky Hill, South Carolina. A four-year member of the Eagles pitching staff, Trottier led Winthrop to two Big South championships in 2007 and 2008. During those two seasons, Winthrop defeated Division I powerhouses such as the University of North Carolina, Tennessee Tech, UC Davis, and North Carolina State.

Not only was she a standout in the circle, Trottier also excelled in the classroom, as she was named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll three consecutive times (2006-2008).Trottier graduated from Winthrop in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. In May of 2010, she earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Alvernia. On top of her coaching responsibilities at Albright, Trottier will also serve as an admissions counselor.

ALBRIGHTATHLETICS.COM 6

The 2012 Albright Softball roster added only a handful of new members to begin the upcoming season- three new freshman, and three additions to the coaching staff. Two seniors, three new freshman, and three new coaches mean that this year’s Lions will be out to prove that few transactions can still be responsible for many changes.

Originally from Canada, new head softball coach Izzy Trottier enjoyed a standout career playing for her native red and white as part of the Provincial Women’s Softball Association and also won a silver medal in 2005 at the Canada Summer Games as a member of Team Ontario. As a player, Trottier at-tended Winthrop University and was a four-year member of the Eagles pitching staff, where she led Winthrop to two Big South championships in 2007 and 2008. Trottier spent the next two years earning her master’s degree in education from Alvernia, where she served as an assistant coach for the conference rival’s softball team.

Coach Trottier’s bench staff will include current Albright women’s basketball assistant (and former Kutztown University standout) Rachel Weindensaul, along with former Lions’ softball player Melanie Chapman as the new assistant coaches. Chapman graduated in the spring of 2011 with her bach-elor’s degree in family studies and a certification in elementary education.

The bulk of this season’s pitching duties will fall on upperclassmen shoulders. Junior transfer Stephanie Romano proved herself during the fall and will battle for innings with junior Allie Frank and senior Alex Tragno.

Last season Jackie Bohanan stormed onto the college scene, hitting .341 in 32 games as a true freshman. Bohanan ranked number one in batting average, on base percentage, and runs scored on the roster last season; she ranked either second or third on the team in slugging percentage, hits, runs batted in, doubles, home runs, total bases and stolen bases. Bohanan will be a primary source of offense for this year and likely the following two as well.

Bohanan is expected to battle for time at third base with Ally Martin. Becky Crandall (.403 slugging percentage, five doubles and two home runs) could see playing time at the corners but will also DH a lot. Bohanan and Crandall were the only players to hit over .300 with runners in scoring position last season, and both should expect to be significant contributors whenever they’re in the lineup.

Two rookies will add to a talented infield- freshmen Natalie Carlucci and Alysa Romero. Carlucci has a hot bat and is looking to start at first base while Romero, with her impressive fielding and consistent hitting, could start at shortstop.

The Red and White outfield will be watched over by juniors Brandy Lagomarsino and Miriah Wilson. Sophomore Marquerite DeLucas should also see time after her freshman year batting average nearly eclipsed .300. Both Lagomarsino and Wilson played in 30 games last season; the two speedsters ranked number one and two on the team respectively in stolen bases and attempts, going a combined 13 of 14.

The Lady Lions lost only a few pieces on the field following their 2011 season. The hiring of new coach Izzy Trottier, combined with the solid core of young athletes who have now played together for over a year, breeds a sense of excitement for the upcoming season and expecta-tions for a successful year.

Rachel WeidensaulAssistant Coach

The 2012 season will be Rachel Weidensaul’s first as a softball assistant; she has been an assistant with the Albright women’s basketball squad for four seasons. A multi-sport scholarship athlete at Kutztown University, Weidensaul graduated in May of 2008 with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing. She then completed her Master’s Degree in Business from Kutztown.

Weidensaul graduated in the top-10 all-time lists at Kutztown for pitching appearances (87), wins (43), complete games (39), innings (408.2) and strikeouts (225). While at Kutztown, Weidensaul served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), where she was responsible for recom-mending potential NCAA legislation and promoted positive images of her fellow athletes both at the University and throughout the nation.Weidensaul has also worked with the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. In the summer of 2006, she served as Concessions Manager for the Reading Phillies.

Mel ChapmanAssistant Coach

After being a four-year Albright Softball player, Melanie Chapman is starting the 2012 season as an assistant coach. Melanie graduated from Albright in the spring of 2011 with her Bachelor’s Degree in Family Studies and a certification in Elementary Education. She is now completing her Master’s Degree in Special Education and expected to graduate in December of 2012.

In Melanie’s four years as a softball player she was a MAC Honor Roll recipient as well as a member of the MAC All Sportsmanship Team in back to back years; spring 2010 and spring 2011. While working toward her Masters Degree, Melanie also holds jobs on campus in the Development Office as a student manager for the phonathon, raising money for the college, as well as a Student Corporal at Public Safety.
