Organized by EMBRACING 2017 COMPANIES ACT 2016 OVERVIEW The long-awaited Companies Bill 2015 has received Royal Assent and gazetted as the Companies Act 2016. It has also been announced that the Companies Commission of Malaysia intends to bring the Companies Act 2016 into force in stages. Starting from the first quarter of 2017. SPEAKERS

Dr Aiman Nariman Mohd Sulaiman is a Professor of Law at the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and has been a faculty member since graduating from IIUM in 1993 with a First Class (Hon) She obtained her doctoral degree (SJD) from Bond University, Australia in 2000 with a thesis on the enforcement of corporate law. She is currently a board member of the Listing Committee of Bursa Malaysia (2015-2018); having held the same position between 2008-2012. She has conducted various training including programs on behalf of SSM, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy, various companies and company secretarial firms on matters relating to corporate law and governance. She was a key figure in the Malaysian Corporate Law Reform Programme (2004—2008), firstly in proposing for a comprehensive corporate law review which led to the establishment and functioning of the Corporate Law Reform Committee and the corporate law reform project; and subsequently, as the consultant for the project, with the responsibility of setting the framework for the reform project to review Malaysia's company law, supervising and conducting the law reform and consultation exercises, including proposing areas for reform and preparing the relevant documents. The recommendations have been included in the new Companies Act 2016.

NORHISHAM ABD BAHRINTOPIC : ENHANCED DIRECTORS DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Norhisham Abd Bahrin is a Corporate and Mergers & Acquisitions Partner at Azmi & Associates. His practice areas cover all corporate matters, mergers & acquisitions, venture capital and private equity, aviation as well as data protection and cybersecurity. Hisham is an Advocate & Solicitor at the High Court of Malaya and graduated from the International Islamic University Malaysia with LLB (Hons.) in 1999. He also holds an MBA in International Business from the Royal Docks Business School from the University of East London. Over the years, Hisham is recommended in the fields of Corporate and Mergers & Acquisitions in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 for 2016 and 2015. He is also the co-author of the Malaysian chapter in the Mergers & Acquisitions Review 2015 (9th and 10th Edition) published by the Law Business Research Ltd, London. He has undertaken numerous transactions relating to M&As, foreign investments, takeovers, JVs (both local and cross-borders). Hisham regularly speaks on legal issues affecting businesses. He is now a faculty member of the Malaysian Directors Academy (MINDA).
