This month well see nominations of Officers for the coming year and elections will follow. The Office also works on the daunting task of renewing member- ships for the 2020 year, in February. It is really important that all members pay their dues and have their new cards in hand by April 1 st . You will not be let into the Lodge without a new card and your dues paid up to date. Please do not be angry at the door volunteers when you are denied access because you dont have your current card. Greetings Members All,

It’s hard to believe it’s February and my term as Exalted Ruler is nearly complete. This month we’ll see nominations of Officers for the coming year and elections will follow. The Office also works on the daunting task of renewing member-ships for the 2020 year, in February. It is really important that all members pay their dues and have their new cards in hand by April 1st. You

will not be let into the Lodge without a new card and your dues paid up to date. Please do not be angry at the door volunteers when you are denied access because you don’t have your current card. As Elks, it is our duty to be proud to show our membership card so please plan accordingly. On February 8th at the Aquatic Center, Youth Activities is hosting a Family Free Swim that includes pizza, for the 400 community attendees. This, and the swim for “Stick Um” event last August were both funded by the Beacon Grant. Why? Because we love our community. Drug Awareness will also be on hand to share

literature and comic books. The Blood Drive is February 9th and we hope many will stop in and donate to this great cause. While this Lodge is a club and members pay their dues to belong, the work of running the Lodge, for the most part is done by vol-unteers. February 2020

Greetings,

January has ended. With that we have had our Rummage sale which again was a big success that took a lot of volunteers. You know who you are and thank you. Kay Wdowiak has again pulled it off. Thank you to my first Vice President Vanessa Brewster for all her help also. March will bring us to our Crazy Auction that again will take a lot of

work and volunteers. We need new items donated to have for this fun event. VOLUNTEER. I can’t stress the word Volunteer enough. I have no idea how many hours I personally have put in in the past two years but it’s a lot. Not bragging at all. I just want to stress it and put it into your thoughts. This is your lodge and if you are capable of volunteering then just give one day a month doing something. The Elks now have all-volunteer door greeters. This is a fun thing to do and important. Just 3-4 hours depending on the day of the week. Great way to meet people. I have a blast. Help with Pies, help decorate or help with an event. We have an all-volunteer Tuesday night burger crew and an all-volunteer Spaghetti crew. I know

everyone is not physically capable of this but with 4000 members in our Elks lodge we should have a lot more volun-teers. I’ve had some great response with Pie volunteers this past few weeks and I thank you all. It’s a great fund raiser and we hope to continue. But without volunteers we can’t keep it going. I do not want a full-time job and that’s what it has felt like the last few months. Thank you again to those that have stepped up to the pie plate! If you want to know how to go about volunteering for any of these positions just ask me. I will point you to the right person. VOLUNTEER. Once again, I am very proud of what we do and what we have done the past two years. We have generated a lot of money and given a lot back to the community. We have made some chang-es and there will probably be more to come, and they are all good. Elkettes rule! Respectfully submitted, Eva D. FISHING CLUB NEWS

Now that our diets and exercise programs are well underway and our lives are getting back to normal (whatever that is), we can look forward to another great year. We have monthly campouts scheduled through September.

Our January campout was dry camping and shopping in Quartzsite. This is always a “no host” campout and members came and went during the month. Many were there when the big white tent was there January 18th through the 25th so they could buy some things they would never use. lol

February will be dry camping at Needle Mountain hosted by Don & Shirlee Lower February 14th through the 16th. There will be off-roading and games and, of course, happy hours and lots of food. It is close to Topok and Golden Shores.

March will be two campouts. Joe Abela and Kathy Henrik-sen will be hosting the Avi March 5th through the 7th and Omer & Donna Ethier and Al & Marti Johnson will be host-ing a campout at Calico March 12th through the 14th.

April will be our annual Tri-State event in Tucson coordinat-ed by Hank Thonnard. Dates for this are April 15th through the 18th.

May will be in Wickenburg hosted by Bob & Barb Volk and Rod & Debbie Herd.

We will be dark for the months of June, July and August. Our first campout after that will be at the Railside RV Ranch. Dates for that are September 16th through the 19th and will be hosted by Bill & Debbie Horton and Don & Sue Underwood. If you have not made your reservations for this, you should do so right away as this is very well attended. If they are full, ask to be put on the waiting list.

Welcome to our new members Jim & Mary Marble, Phil & Pam Hill, Joe Waterson & Kris Klein, Dennis & Jacqueline Neubeck and Peter Back.

Our meetings are always the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 1:00. If you are going to join us for lunch, please be there by 11:45 so everyone can be served prior to the beginning of the meeting. Also, the Queen of Hearts closes at 12:45. I look forward to see-ing everyone there.

The Elks Yacht Club board hopes that everyone had a wonder holiday season.

The EYC is starting this year with two great get together events. Our annual chili cook off competition was held Jan-uary the 19th. It was open for EYC members and their guests. A Trophy and a prize was awarded for the best chili that was entered. Also, second and third place winners got ribbons. All those that brought a crock pot of chili got drink tokens. There is no better way to spend a cold January day then with a hot bowl of chili. Two games were played with the winners getting drink tokens.

On February the 23rd from noon till 4 at the Lodge we are having our EYC Crazy Hat event. It’s for EYC members and their guests. The music will be provided by our own Lake Havasu City Crazy Hatter Gary Peaslee. So get creative with your crazy hat be-cause the winner will get a trophy and a prize. Also second and third place will get ribbons. Please bring a DISH TO SHARE, silver-ware and plates will be provided. Let’s make this event fun, let’s also get to know our fellow members. Why not just introduce your-self to someone you don’t know and say hello my name is and make some new friends.

February 2020

As the new year has started hopefully all had fun in Palm Springs. At the time of this writing the Jerry Kaser Club Championship has started and will continue through the month of February. The semi-annual luncheon will then be held at the end of March along with our Scramble event and the

award ceremony. With great sadness, Tommy Prosser passed away in December. For those who did not know Tommy, he was a founding mem-ber of the golf club. He will be greatly missed for his quick wit and fun conversations. It is always important to take a moment to reflect and remember our past members. If anyone has suggestions or ideas for the newsletter please fell free to contact me so we can get them in. Good golfing.
