All you want to know about Calder High School
Our motto: ‘Everybody, Everyday’
What do you think this means?
Simply:
• To be your very best at all times – ‘Personal Best’
• To be polite and show respect to both staff and other students (whether they are your friends or not!)
• To make the most of all school life has to offer – new friendships, new learning, new opportunities
How are you feeling right now?
Will things be different?
YES!!!!!
We are a large school of about 1350 students, with a large site, and there are over 100 teachers. Next year there will be almost 300 students in Year 7!
You will also be studying new subjects over a two week timetable in many different rooms with many different teachers.
Should I be worried?
NO!!!! All new Year 7 students are ‘in the same boat’. There will even be some new teachers feeling the same way! CHS is a friendly school and your new form tutors are used to induction. We want you to have fun!
What will a normal day look
like?
Identity: Tutor groups and teaching
• At CHS you will be in one of 10 tutor groups

more!
• Unfortunately sometimes
things may go wrong. We

Respect school property and the school environment Get involved (make the most of the many enrichment
opportunities on offer)
Using Class Charts
ClassCharts is an online/app based system that shows your daily rewards and sanctions and also tells you what homework you
have to do.
You and your parents will need to either install the app on your ipads or phones or look at it online. We will give you an access
code!
You need to get into the habit of checking your ClassCharts EVERY DAY!
Is it all work and no play? NO!!!
We really want you to enjoy school and coming to school should be more than just 25 lessons a week! Make the most of what’s on offer ….
Sports clubs – girls & boys, music, drama, chess, media, Science, textiles and art, homework support, trips and visits, house competitions and lots, lots

Next stop
This year, for obvious reasons, all the normal transition events have had to be cancelled.
Your parents will however be regularly e mailed information about transition and there will be things for you to watch and read – you should
already have seen the 6-2-7 booklet that was sent to them!
At present we expect all students to start at CHS on Tuesday 8th September, but this may change.
Look forward to CHS We are looking forward to seeing you!
