GREAT RIVER CHALLENGE The Challenger Leagues of the Illinois and Iowa
Quad Cities will be playing in the fifth GREAT
RIVER CHALLENGE on August 23, 2015. The
game will have the two leagues playing together at
the scenic Modern Woodmen Park thanks to the
generosity of the River Bandits Organization and
the hard work of many people from both leagues.
The Challenger Little League enable mentally
and physically challenged children a chance to play
organized baseball. The Challenger Leagues have
the participants divided into three different levels
to allow for safe and fun baseball game. The
Challenger Leagues rely on volunteers to coach
and manage the teams and most of them are parents
of these special needs children. The Challenger
Leagues also have volunteers who act as “buddies”
and help the Challenger players on the field and at
bat.

COUNCIL OFFICER TRAINING WEBINAR
Brother Knights,
I recently attended the Council Officer Training
webinar and is now available for all to listen to at
your own convenience. I recommend it for new
officers especially, to get an understanding of
Supreme requirements for Star Council and other
awards.

DEACON’S QUESTION BOX
Bodily Participation at Mass – Walking up to
Communion
After the Eucharistic Prayer and the Great
Doxology, it is time for communion. How do you
get from your pew to the sanctuary? You have to
walk. This sounds like a dumb and self-evident
question. But, it’s not as self-evident as it seems.
How to walk with dignity, to process? Msgr.
Romano Guardini addresses this question also.
Walking. How many people really know how to
walk in a dignified and reverent manner? It is not
hurrying along at a kind of run. It is also not
shuffling along at a snail’s pace. It is a composed
and firm forward movement. There is spring in the
tread of a good walker. He lifts, not drags, his
heels. He is straight, not stoop-shouldered, and his
steps are sure and even. He reflects outwardly
confidence in the promise of our Lord renewed in
the Blessed Sacrament.
Msgr. wrote that when he was a novice, they were
taught how to walk in procession in order to keep
even two by two, and so that the line would stay
straight. It was particularly difficult to keep
together when making a turn, because the monk on
the outside would have to walk faster than the
monk on the inside, so as to keep together. Anyone
who has done any marching knows that: marching
in a band, or in the armed services, or in a parade.
At the time of his novitiate, they all thought that
being taught how to walk was ridiculous. “You’d
think a grown man would know how to walk!” they
would exclaim in pride and ignorance. But the fact
of the matter was, they didn’t know how to walk
properly. The Novice Master was right: they had
to be taught.
You are on your way to receive the greatest and
most mysterious of the Sacraments, Holy
Eucharist. We need to reflect what we are doing
and whom we are receiving. We are drawing close
to the Holiest place we will visit; we are drawing
close to the presence of God. Be conscious of what
you are doing, and walk with calm reverence and a
spirit of recollection and prayer.

INSURANCE AGENT’S MESSAGE
LTC Is an Important Piece of the Puzzle
There are many financial consultants and
retirement authorities who emphasize the need for
a long-term care (LTC) product for estate
preservation and family protection. While many
commercial life insurance companies have gotten
out of the long-term care business, the Knights of
Columbus considers LTC a very important piece of
the family protection puzzle. The Order has been
actively offering our members this product for
nearly 15 years without a premium increase on
current policyholders. Members who wisely
purchased an LTC plan from the Knights in 2000
are still paying the same premiums today. Even
better, our LTC coverage is backed by the full
strength of the Order, which remains rooted in our
strong Catholic values. Talk about stability when it
counts.
If we have not spoken about your need for LTC
coverage in your family portfolio, please take some
time out of your schedule to meet with me.
Remember, long-term care policies are
underwritten based on your health, and you most
likely will never be any healthier than you are
today.

THANK YOU!!! KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
ANNUAL CHARITABLE GOLF OUTING
THANK YOU!!!
I want to thank all of our Brother Knights from
Allouez Council who helped with the outing this
year or who organized a team and played in this
year’s Annual Charitable Golf Outing newly
named “The Guy Randazzo Memorial Charity
Golf Outing” in honor of Brother and Past Grand
Knight of St. Ambrose Council. This year we had
(7) Teams from Allouez Council and (21) Teams
from St. Ambrose Council easily making the
“Shot Gun Start” requirements of (25) Teams. We
truly appreciate the St. Ambrose Council for
inviting us to team up with them again this year
and allowing us to tag along to bring in some
Charitable Funds to help others. The Randazzo
Brothers certainly added some energy to this year’s
event and I congratulate Bro. Knight & area
Celebrity Matt Randazzo for his first year
committeeship.
First off, I’d like to thank our Team Captains
for organizing our Allouez Team; they were
Glenn Wells, Ev Manning, Rick Cervantes, Bob
Kulig, TJ Krone, and GK Josh Brueggen. We
had one very generous Brother Knight
anonymously sponsor an entire Team from the
Arsenal Island USO. Also playing with them was
Brother Knights Steve Wieland, Sean Manning,
Mike Pacheco, Wayne Valentine, Mike Roman,
DGK Dave Yordy, and Bob Van De Voorde.
Friends or relatives completed the team rosters,
thanks to them as well!!! Because we had (7) of the
(28) teams this year we realized 25% of the misc.
income from the event. If we had more teams from
Allouez Council, we would realize a higher
percentage of the misc. income, i.e. beverage sales,
50/50, and Silent Auction, etc. Let’s try harder next
year…..
The majority of our income is realized from our
Hole Sponsors which each Council keeps 100% of
their own Sponsor donations. This year as in the
past we had 20+ Hole Sponsors who we owe a debt
of gratitude to. They are as follows: Sexton Ford
Sales, American Bank & Trust, The Father
Bader Flag Team, Wheelan-Pressly Funeral
Home, Steve & Val Frels, Fountain Consulting,
LLC, The Pampered Chef, Rafferty Funeral
Home, William Twain Lawn Care, Kale
Company, Kulig Accounting, Benny’s Pizza,
Bank Orion, Mathew S. Anderson CPA, At
Your Service Catering/ Moe’s, Blackhawk Bank
& Trust, Hughes Telephone, Inc., Bush Sports
Turf, Frye Builders & Associates, Wayne
Valentine, & the Mexican-American Veteran’s
Association Hero Street Chapter. Please utilize
these companies for their services and thank them
for supporting our cause in “Helping Others”.
Also we were able to provide a door prize to
each player due to the generosity of our Prize
Sponsors as follows: Fyre Lake Golf Course,
Bank Orion, Quad Cities Barbers, Da Bears
Barber Shop, Mike Daly, 1st Community Bank -
Sherrard, Modern Woodman Ins. Co., Mulkey’s
Henny Penny Chicken, New Frontier Barber
Shop, Jako’s Bar & Grill, Sports Depot, Saint
Giuseppe Pizza, US Bank, US Golf Outlet
Center, Jim Weiland, Sterns Beverage, Shirt
Tales – Aledo, Securitas Security, Inc., Triumph
Community Bank, Orange Leaf, and the QC
Running Club. Please utilize these companies’
services and thank them for supporting our
cause in “Helping Others”.
Our Council realized income of approximately
$3,900.00 with a net income of approximately
$2,800.00 to help us provide charitable funds in
helping others……Thanks to all that helped
out!!!
Vivat Jesus!!! Jack Swan PGK, Golf Outing
