In the book, one of the main characters, Commander Root, says “Hate to tell you this, Dorothy, but you ain’t in Kansas anymore.”

This is a reference to the well known movie and book, The Wizard of Oz

You can tell that this is an allusion because Root calls Artemis Dorothy, the main character in The Wizard of Oz, and says that he’s not in Kansas anymore.
