Baker Hughes has introduced the
industrys highest horsepower electrical
submersible pumping (ESP) system, which
dramatically expands the ESP operation
envelope in critical wells.
The Baker Hughes XPXtreme
Performance series high horsepower
ESP system is designed to address your
most critical applications where run
life, reliability, performance, and risk
management are top priorities.
The XP high horsepower ESP system
consists of our new 880 motor, medium
voltage variable speed drive (VSD),
875 seal, Centrilift Tri-Leadpothead, and
high flow rate pump. We designed and
manufacture the entire system so that
every component connects and operates
together seamlessly. This unified approach
eliminates any equipment compatibilityissues for you and results in tight quality
control and reliable performance.
Our new 880 motor is the first ESP motor
capable of 2800 hp. The extra power
makes this motor the most effective
solution for longer offshore step-outs,
municipal water, and mine dewatering
applications requiring high flow rates.
Applications
Subsea
Offshore
Municipal water
Gas well dewatering
Geothermal wells

The 880 motor is shorter and lighter than
other lower horsepower models. This
makes it ideal for deepwater subsea and
offshore applications because you can
reduce cost by using light intervention
vessels for installation and maintenance.
The motors reliability and long run life will
also reduce risk in your critical wells.
Our patented Tri-Lead pothead is the first
of its kind and was developed exclusively
for the 880 motor. Unlike traditional
plug-in or tape-in potheads, each phases
conductor is separated and individually
plugged-in. This results in more reliable
electrical connections under the most
extreme downhole conditions. The
pothead can also handle 7 kV, a higher
voltage that enables longer step-outs in
subsea applications.
The medium voltage drive is the only VSD
designed for ESP applications in harsh
petroleum environments. Unlike generic
drives, its electronics and software were
developed to handle any situation arising
in a challenging well. With 8 kV output
capacity, our drive supplies enough power
and amperage to enable peak motor
efficiency while allowing flexible operation
adjustments. This lets you change system
settings to meet optimal production or
performance goals.
