Hello Altrusans:As we move into the New Year, please think about how we can continue to move forward as

a Club. How do we move forward with a number of different beliefs, values, personalities, and levels of energy? Are you a brand new person in the Club? How can you learn andknow the history of Altrusa? Are you someone who has been an Altrusan for more than 8years? How can you teach your knowledge to others? Lets work together to learn and growfrom each other and represent Altrusa to the best of our abilities.

The 23rd annual Spring Luncheon and fashion show will take place on March 26 th at theMontrose Pavilion. The committee is chaired by Lorie Bollig and co-chaired by AllisonNadel. Music Makes Memories will be the theme this year. Carolee Hawkins is creating adesign for artwork and advertising, Joey Huskey and Debby Curtis will facilitate the ameni-ties. Fashion Show chair and co-chair is Margaret Goodhue and Kylee Smith. Linda Ribaand Dorinda Elder are in charge of our delicious meals. Bobbi Brown and Bonnie Coffmanwill host the live auction part of the event. Rose Price and Jeanne Kuchynka will ensure that

we have table sponsors, along with Molly Fedderson and Lita Sargent supporting our tablehostesses. Ginny Spaven and Roberta Hoey are in charge of ticket sales. Judy Copeland andSandra Tyler will chair the vendors. Other members of the committee are Marianne Cross,Sheryl Solow, Bonnie Eakin, Karen Tuttle, and James Wilkinson. As you can tell, this eventtakes a number of people to make it successful. We will still need models, servers, decora-tors, table hostesses, and clean up help. How can you help? Contact any member of thecommittee and they can sign you up.

The Nominating Committee chaired by Roberta Hoey will begin to look for our new mem-bers to be on the board of directors. Please review the job duties for the positions, askabout the time commitment, expectations, and consider this worthwhile way to help moveour club forward.

    Happy New Year:Kaye

    ASTRA UPDATE

On November 27, several MHS ASTRA mem-

bers gathered at the home of Sandra Tyler, lo-

cal Altrusan, to cut boughs. Then on Decem-

ber 5, ASTRA members made wreaths from

the fresh cut boughs and donated holiday deco-

rations. The members then sold them to fami-

ly, friends, and neighbors. The annual fundrais-

er allows the girls to purchase Christmas gifts

for children involved with Hilltops Tandem

    Families.

This year, ASTRA purchased 30 gifts for children from 2

months old to 16 years old. The members truly enjoy selecting

that special gift for each child! The MHS ASTRA Club is a ser-

vice club for young people sponsored by Altrusa Internationalof Montrose.

Involving club members in the spirit of

camaraderie and goodwill has been the

underlying goal of the annual Altrusa

Spring Luncheon, first held in 1989.

Over the past two decades, the luncheon

has grown into a highly ancipated

community event. In 2000, one of the

outstanding table centerpieces featureda large ribbon with 500 pink carnaons in

honor of breast cancer survivors. The

centerpiece was designed by the late

Susie Hauck, who valiantly shared her

strength and bale with cancer with her

    fellow club members.

This program has distributed about 2,000 books annually to school-age chil-dren for a gift of literacy at Christmastime. The Altrusans shown above put holidaybows on groups of books donated at drop off sites throughout the community.

Altrusans also delivered books to the countys Health and Human Services Department

where parents and caregivers select books appropriate for children of all ages.
