Having earned his credentials in Architecture and Drafting, his love for art took him on an adventure that led him to work on some of the world’s most famous comics, such as DC’s Wonder Woman and Marvel’s Death of Wolverine. He attributes his success to the curriculum in his program, and said he could not have achieved so much without the help he received from his instructors. Jay was working the country’s largest Comic Con in New York during graduation weekend, so we presented his award to him at an earlier date. Spencerian – Juliet Henderson Juliet works as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist at the Mayo Clinic. Her success is a result of her own diligence and determination, having overcome many challenges and adversities that faced her during her time at Spencerian. Her message is one of strength, perseverance, and positivity, and urges students to dream big and refuse to quit. “Stay positive,” she said. “It’s easy to fall into the trap of becoming negative when there is a lot of pressure on you to succeed and you have a mountain of ridiculously complicated work ahead of you. Refuse to fall victim to that.” Sullivan – Shawn Arvin Shawn is passionate about loving people. He and his wife, Inga, have followed their hearts to Portland to open up Love City, a non-profit that helps just spread love in the community. Every Friday night, they hold a Fish Fry, and through the week, they open their doors with activities for kids aged 12-18. They are chipping away at renovations of their building, making more space for more great things, such as a fitness center, and classrooms. He wants to show the community around him that they are in charge of their own success, and wants to help them become self-sustaining.

October 21st, benefitting the Family Scholar House.

eMentoring Merriam-Webster defines “mentor” as “a trusted counselor or guide.” Graduates of any school in the Sullivan University System can volunteer to mentor a current student to support them in the pursuit of their educational and professional goals. Successful graduates serve as inspirational role models to current students.

Think about the time you were in college. Wouldn’t it have been wonderful to have someone who successfully completed your program guide you through the ins and outs of it? Wouldn’t it have been great to know what to expect, to know how to make the most of your education? That’s what the eMentoring program is designed for. Interested alumni and students register with the Alumni Office and request to be paired with someone from their program.

An online forum is set up where the two can communicate. Monthly email prompts help facilitate communication, and the alumni can provide support and encouragement the entire time. They also answer questions about potential career paths, and share their experience and advice on what it takes to succeed in school and in the real world.

Our Churchill Downs event is SOLD OUT!

Thank you to everyone for your support, and we look forward to an exciting event! Watch for pictures in the next issue!
