It is our hope that this newsletter will enable us to reconnect with all of our Phi Delta Theta alumni, and also invite them to become involved in any way possible. House Improvements During the Summer of 2016, SMU’s Phi Delta Theta house undertook several internal improvement projects. Some of the improvements include: The chapter room has been completely refurbished and carpeting/ hardwood flooring has been replaced in several areas across the house. On top of this, we recently replaced all of our outdoor patio furniture and have installed a brand-new 90” flat-screen TV for our living room. We hope to make further improvements within the next year.

Phi Delta Theta – Texas Delta

Spring Newsletter 2017

Alumni, Parents and Friends of Phi Delta Theta – Texas Delta,

There are many great things going on in our chapter right now. Throughout the past couple of years, the Texas Delta chapter of Phi Delta Theta has been working extensively to rebuild & reinstate ourselves as an elite fraternity chapter on SMU’s campus. We are very excited to share important chapter updates and announce several chapter improvements that have recently taken place. Our new 2017 executive board is doing an outstanding job thus far, and we are very optimistic about the chapter’s future. The purpose of this newsletter, along with those to follow, is to update all of our alumni about what’s currently going on within the chapter. One of Texas Delta’s most important goals for the future is to improve alumni relations.

2017 Phikeia Class This year we have recruited our largest Phikeia class in recent history, with 40 outstanding young men. They come from all across the country, yet twelve hail from the Lonestar State alone. The new class includes football players, eagle scouts, non-profit founders, and intramural flag football team captains, to name a few. We are very proud of the Phikeia class that we have recruited, and our recruitment chairmen, Charles Woodside and John Peters, deserve a lot of credit. The entire chapter dedicated a lot of time and hard work to make this year’s recruitment such a success. While many in this group did not know each other at the beginning of the semester, they are already forming a strong bond through the Phikeia Education program. The Phikeia Education program follows the standards and guidelines set by the Phi Delta Theta General Headquarters and also the local standards of SMU. The program’s main focus is to ensure that all Phikeia will learn the essential facts required for membership of Phi Delta Theta with the main focus being that of chapter history, relationship building, chapter operations, and chapter/campus involvement.

Community Service On Friday, February 10th, 2016, a handful of men within Texas Delta volunteered in the retail center of Habitat for Humanity. Our newly-elected Community Service Chairman has scheduled five exclusive events for the Spring semester which will enable us to give back to the greater Dallas community. We will be conducting further events with H4H, along with other organizations in the Dallas community. Further, Texas Delta’s annual Casino Night will benefit the ALS Association, with a donation goal of $10,000.

Semester Goals: Our primary goal for the Spring 2017 semester is to win the Gold Star Award with Phi Delta Theta GHQ. In order to do this, we are working hard to improve our alumni relations, submit all necessary chapter forms on time throughout the semester, and utilize social media platforms. Another semester goal for Texas Delta is to re-implement a scholarship which is unique to this chapter. We have been working extensively with our alumni board in order to make this possible.
