Hello and welcome to the January edition of Amber Valley Voice. Another Christmas and New Year has flown by in a flurry of activity and a new year is upon us with all that it brings. For me it is a year full of ac-tivity and resolutions, which has started

briskly but is sure to fizzle out mid-Feb as usual!!! Hav-ing said that, it is the year of the Dragon, if you follow the Chinese new year, on 23rd January and the Dragon symbolises success and happiness...so maybe the reso-lutions will last this year?!!

January is a notoriously quiet month as the credit card bills start to roll in for most of us, so it is a good time to look into activities of a cash light nature, so please do check out our new feature on pages 17 & 18, which highlights a good local walk (regardless of whether you have a dog or not). We are hoping to con-tinue this feature, so if you have a local walk that you would like us to recom-mend, please get in contact with us and share the knowledge and exercise!

There are a couple of local events this month, see the organ recital on page 12 and the Alpine society sale on page 20, they would really appreciate local sup-port.

Here at the Amber Valley Voice HQ we are proud dog owners (you

may have spotted our furry little nightmare popping up in the magazine

from time to time). So we thought we would share some of our favour-

ite walks around the Amber Valley area with our readers.

We hope you enjoy the walks and if you have any of your own you

� The walk begins in Riddings Park. If you cannot walk their easily then there is parking by the community centre entrance on West Street and at the end of Shaw Street both of which are off or near Greenhill Lane.

� In Riddings Park head towards the bottom field which can be reached by a stile in the far corner of the cricket pitch or through an entrance in the fence located off the path in the wooded area.

� Using any of the paths, walk down to the bottom right hand corner of this field where there is a gate in the black metal fence. Go through the gate and head right along the footpath

� Carry on along the footpath as it becomes a road with a wall on the left (Park Mews). At the end of the road turn left onto Church Street

� Walk on past the Seven Stars and Moulders Arms public houses before taking the first left onto Spring Road and then the first right onto Nottingham Road.

� Carry on down Nottingham Road for 700 meters. Past a row of houses on your left there will be a short wall then a entrance onto the Pinxton Canal Path through a green metal barrier. The canal path is a soil path and lightly wooded.

� Walk along the Canal Path for 700 meters, past the Pye Bridge Pond. Just after the signed exit from the canal path, about 10 meters further along, take a left up a set of steps to cross the Main Road and through a gap in the wall on the other side, down a set of steps and back onto another lightly wooded soil path.

� Walk along this path for approximately 400 meters until you approach a rail bridge. At the bridge turn left along the path which has a metal fence on the right hand side.

� Follow this path for a little over 100 meters. As the path turns to the left take the path straight on which follows the metal fence. This is a single track grass path, which may be a touch muddy if it has been wet recently., which takes you along the side of the rail track.

� Carry on along this path for around 750 meters and then cross a fence stile which brings you our onto a wide stone path next to a bridge.

This is a really good walk to take with your dogs as it offers a range of scenery and lead and non-lead walking. The route is around 4 miles long, taking approx. 1 1/2 to 2 hours. It is un-

dulating but not too taxing and can be easily traversed in a good pair of boots.

Circular walk from Riddings Park, along Pinxton Canal Path (Approx. 4 miles)

� Turn left and then walk along the path for around 150 meters before taking a left up a grass path with a hedge on either side.

� After a little over 100 meters the path ends at Cockshutt Lane, where you turn left

� Walk along Cockshutt Lane until it ends after around 200 meters. As the road ends it bends around to the left and there is a metal gate and a horse stile. Go through the horse stile and follow the bridle path around to the right and up-hill.

� After approximately 500m the bridle path ends with a gate and a horse stile. Cross the stile and walk down Norman Road past the housing on your right.

� At the end of the road it meets B600 Lower Somercotes road. Turn right here along the pavement into Somercotes.

� When possible cross the road and carry on along the pavement until you come to the Black Horse public house, taking a left up Cinder Road.

� At the end of Cinder Road you come to a set of bollards. Pass through the bol-lards and turn immediately left, taking the path that has a wall running along the left hand side.

� Follow the path until the end where you will find yourself back on the footpath behind Riddings park. Re-enter the park through a gap in the black fence. and take any path you choose back through the park.

desperatelywantstoservehiscountrybutisconstantlyrejected

until6thtimelucky,heisspottedbyScientistDrErskine(Stanley

Tucci)whoseeshispotentialbeyondhisphysicalappearance.

OnceStevehastakenDrErskinesmagicformula,heistransformed

physicallyintotheherohealwayswasinside.Afterdiscoveringhis

bestfriendisindanger,CaptainAmerica(Steve)takesupthe:ight

withHydraandtheevilJohannSchmidt(HugoWeaving).

Althoughitcouldbearguedthatthis:ilmisn’tasstrongassomeof

theMarvel:ilmsthathavebeenreleasedinrecentyears,itisstillcompellingviewing

forallthefamily.TheCGIwasparticularlyimpressivewhichtransformedChrisEvans

atthestartofthe:ilmandinfairness,Inowbelievethatthecastingwasspoton!
