Founded in 1972, AISD was established by the U.S. State Department to serve the diplomatic communities, the United Nations and international companies in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Currently, this also includes many non-government organizations such as the World Health Organization, CARE, UNWoman, World Vision and Save the Children. AISD strives to meet the individual needs of its students who come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and educational systems from around the world. We are an inclusive school with an open admission policy. AISD offers an American style university preparatory program for students in Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. English is the medium of instruction for the educational program which encompasses both the IB and American diploma curriculums. The school provides a strong Student Support Services program along with English as an Additional Language (EAL) classes. Approximately 30% of the student population are resident Bangladeshi nationals.
Mission Statement
AISD provides a program based on American educational principles
to students from an international community.
We create an academic and social environment that challenges
students to achieve their potential, become life-long learners and
contribute to a changing global society.
Vision Statement
Preparing students to become stewards
of a just and sustainable world.

Grading System
AISD is a Standards Based Grading school . Grades ref lect student understanding and mastery of skills acquired in each course using an A-NY scale. Grades are converted to a 4 point scale to obtain an overall average grade (i.e. GPA or Grade Point Average).
GPAs are based only upon grades earned at AISD. The GPA is obtained by adding the point values of all letter grades, and dividing the sum by the number of credits earned.
Students are not ranked and no class receives additional weight.
