Teachers -- Ideas for Booklets

• Put the best completed booklets out for parents to browse through during Open House (Meet Your Teacher night) so that they can get a feel for what their children will be doing/learning in your class.• I also like to make a simple bulletin board for

the hallway – “Welcome to 6th Grade Social Studies!”. I put up a large piece of butcher paper, glue on the sign (next slide), and then glue several of the best booklets onto the paper.

• On the first day of school, I put one on each desk (along with a small treat). I give the students a few minutes to look through the booklets and then to talk about them within their table groups. I walk around & listen to what they’re talking about and then I open up a class discussion about what we will be learning about this year.

Teacher Directions• Most of the printables are two-per-page and black

& white (to save ink). You will need to print, cut in half, and give all pages to each student. You can choose to use all of them, or just the ones that you like best.

• When students are finished with all the printables, they will create a booklet by stapling the pages together (or hole-punching and using yarn). Also, the students can choose to glue the pages together so that they are covered front to back. (I find that this takes a lot of time, so the kids that want to do this have to do it at home.)

• I have my students color the pages & the cover, but that is up to you!
