Help the Homeless

H omeless men living un-der Flushing Meadow

Bridges need clothing For a number of years now and thanks to the generosity of our parishioners; every Sunday morning during the winter months, we bring hot chocolate, a sandwich and some warm clothes to a group of homeless men living under the bridges and sur-rounding areas of Flushing Meadows Corona Park. These are men who for differ-ent reasons have given up on life and seen unable to cope with it. As the cold weather approaches, once again we are preparing to start our mis-sion and we need clothing. If you have warm clothes and blankets that are clean and in good condition and would like to donate them please call us and we will pick them up. For more information call Jorge at (718) 224-8187 or (718) 423-5988.

Annual Coat Drive

T he Coats and gently used clothing have been pour-

ing in and as soon as they come in Patty and I are dis-tributing to various places. Thanks for your generosity and we will keep this en-deavor going throughout the year. Outreach News

T he St. Anastasia Out-reach Program has been

in existence for over two years. During this time our volunteers have assisted our neighbors with shopping, transportation and have of-fered companionship. As the program has become better known in the community our services have been requested more frequently. We now find ourselves in need of more volunteers. If you can help, even if only for an hour a week, it would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to be a part of the outreach Program, please take a card which is located on the table in the vestibule, fill it out, and drop it in the Outreach Box. A member of the Outreach committee will contact you. Evening of Cocktails

T he PS98 PTA cordially invites you to join us for

an evening of cocktails, din-ner & dancing at Douglaston Club on Thursday, March 12, 7:00—11:00 PM. Tickets are $75/pp. Fashion Show News

O n April 2nd St. Anastasia School will hold its an-

nual Fashion Show and Din-ner at Immaculate Concep-tion Center. This is one of the school’s biggest fundrais-ers of the year and we need your help. For those of you who are new to the school or did not at-tend last year’s Fashion Show it is quite a party! In between eating, viewing the fashions of Due Amici and having a great time we will raffle off fabulous theme baskets, which are put together from donations.

If you have received any gifts during this holiday season that you do not want, please donate them to the Fashion Show. We will take any new/unused item, now mat-ter how small, and include it in one of our theme baskets. (Baskets are also needed.) We would also greatly appre-ciate any donations for items such as services, attraction passes, tickets, restaurant or gift certificates or any other items that could be used for our raffles. All donations may be dropped off at the school of-fice or the rectory. If you are unable to drop off an item, please call (718) 428-3780 and a member of the commit-tee will pick it up from you. Thank you for your contin-ued support of St. Anastasia School.

S o many generous parishioners during the ninety-four years of our parish history have been extra generous in supporting

the needs and ministries of the parish. Some of them were named on plaques that were on the walls through-out the Church building. Re-moving the plaques at the time that the Church was painted and decorated offered an oppor-tunity to rethink how we wish to remember these people. The plaques distributed around the Church didn’t highlight our re-sponsibility of gratefully praying for them. The church is a house of prayer and the best way to remember our benefactors is to pray for them. So to make all of us more conscious of this re-sponsibility we have placed the names of these

benefactors in a memorial prayer book which has now been placed inside the church to the left near the Sacred Heart statue. It is a prayer-ful space where we can remember and pray for

all our benefactors both living and dead. We will have a spe-cial prayer service and blessing of this Memorial Book after Easter. If any parishioner wishes the original name plaque, please call the rectory and you can ar-range to pick it up or have it sent to you.

Dear Parishioners,

“Provident God, pour

out your blessings on our

benefactors, both living

and deceased. Their gifts

have enhanced our

Church and their good-

ness inspires us…”

You Are Christ, Today.

MOVIE CLUB:

“The Ninth Day”

Without explanation, Father Henri Kremer, a dissident Catholic priest in-terred at Dachau, is released from the living hell of the Dachau “Priest Block” and returned home to occupied Luxem-bourg. Reunited with his sister and brother, Kremer learns that his freedom is temporary. Gestapo Untersturmführer

Gebhardt, a lapsed seminarian, has ar-ranged a nine day reprieve during which Kremer is expected to persuade the staunchly anti-Nazi Bishop of Lux-embourg to capitulate to Nazi occupa-tion and drive a wedge between Luxem-bourg and the Vatican. As Kremer re-sists, Gebhardt’s threats turn increas-ingly pointed. Torn between duty, faith, terror of returning to Dachau and fear for the safety of his sister’s unborn child, in just nine days Father Henri Kremer must find a way to ease his conscience, protect his family and save his soul without giving in to Gebhardt. But as the ninth day draws near, devout priest and zealous Nazi discover they have more in common than they realize… The "real" Father Kremer, Father Jean Bernard (1907-1994), survived Dachau. He was made bishop of Luxembourg in 1955 and served as head of the Interna-tional Catholic Organization for Cin-ema and Audiovisuals. Directed by Volker Schloendorff (2004) 98 Minutes German with English Subtitles The film contains several images of violence, including a crucifixion, as well as some crude language.

Thursday, March 19 at 7PM St. Anastasia Youth Center

Movie Club is offered to adults only. We are selecting movies that are interesting, inspiring, sometimes forgotten, thought-provoking and artistically significant. We use the Youth Center, which is equipped with AC, comfy couches, decent stereo sound and big-size projection screen. Snacks, wine and soda are served.
