— Monsignor Ryan Outreach News

T he St. Anastasia Out-reach Program has been

in existence for over two years. During this time our volunteers have assisted our neighbors with shopping, transportation and have of-fered companionship. As the program has become better known in the community our services have been requested more frequently. We now

find ourselves in need of more volunteers. If you can help, even if only for an hour a week, it would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to be a part of the outreach Program, please take a card which is located on the table in the vestibule, fill it out, and drop it in the Outreach Box. A member of the Outreach committee will contact you. Fashion Show News

O n April 2nd St. Anastasia School will hold its an-

nual Fashion Show and Din-ner at Immaculate Concep-tion Center. This is one of the school’s biggest fundrais-ers of the year and we need your help. For those of you who are new to the school or did not at-tend last year’s Fashion Show it is quite a party! In between eating, viewing the fashions of Due Amici and having a great time we will raffle off fabulous theme baskets, which are put together from donations. If you have received any gifts during this holiday season that you do not want, please donate them to the Fashion Show. We will take any new/unused item, now mat-ter how small, and include it in one of our theme baskets. (Baskets are also needed.) We would also greatly appre-ciate any donations for items such as services, attraction passes, tickets, restaurant or gift certificates or any other items that could be used for our raffles. All donations may be dropped off at the school of-fice or the rectory. If you are unable to drop off an item, please call (718) 428-3780 and a member of the commit-tee will pick it up from you. Thank you for your contin-

ued support of St. Anastasia School. Please include Reser-vation Sheet.

E very Sunday throughout the Dio-cese of Brooklyn and Queens the Faithful in some 200 parishes like

St. Anastasia come together to share the Good News of our Catholic faith. But 365 days out of the year members of our diocesan family and our own parish fam-ily are living out the Scriptures in ways that continuously respond and renew us in our faith. So the motto for this year's Annual Catholic Appeal reflects well our Catholic mission and life: 'LIVE THE GOSPEL, SHARE THE GOOD NEWS'. The Catholic Appeal helps to provide support for the various diocesan minis-tries like Catholic Charities, Migration Services, Faith Formation, Seminarian Scholarship Assistance and Catholic Education. These are wonderful active ministries which assist many, many peo-ple. The Appeal also helps us support our parish ministries and other special projects. This year our parish goal is $91,218. This goal has been increased by 7.5% over last year's. As you know the Diocese receives

their goal and then the Parish receives all the monies over goal. The people of St. Anastasia have always been generous and we have always gone over goal. I am once again appealing to your generosity and for your personal participation in the Appeal. My hope is that every parishioner will make a financial pledge according to his or her means.

I am grateful for your assistance and as-sure you of my prayers and those of the Bishop. We have all responded to the call of Jesus:

'LIVE THE GOSPEL, SHARE THE GOOD NEWS'

Bastianich Sauvignon Blanc B ($17) Sauvignon Blanc wines are my favorite wines to pair with seafood are a much better match than most overoaked California Chardon-nays. The key to this wine's success is his fruity, citrusy and some-what tart quality, with very high acidity which stands up to the food without overwhelming it. The most popular Sauvignon Blancs hail from California, France, and (my favorite) New Zealand. However, Italy makes some great Sauvignon Blancs but many are quite expen-sive. Not so with this gem from Bastianich. Yes, it's the same Basti-anich family headed by Douglaston resident and celebrity chef and restauranteur Lidia Bastianich--the very same Lidia Bastianich who cooked for Pope Benedict XVI (another wine fan) during his visit to New York and who wowed him with recipes from his home town in Germany. In addition to many incredible restaurants the Bastianich family owns two wineries in Italy and one in Argentina. This Sauvi-gnon Blanc is round, creamy, with a slightly grassy acidic bite and a long finish. Try it with any grilled fish, antipasto or even as an aperi-tif before dinner.
