the tubes;

Krzysztof Kutkowski –
AMDS EAST DISTRIBUTION - OPOLE
Description of the Risk:
After cutting the strapping tape on the coil, there is a
risk that the material will spring back and may strike
the operator who is holding the scissors, causing
damage to the hands and fingers (possible cut /
fracture / bruises).
Proposed Solution:
A solid metal cover….
Paweł Krzywoń & Jakub Otrząsek - AMDS EAST – POLAND - BYTOM
Description of Risk:
Employees touching steel during processing
Proposed Solution:
3 cardboard pieces of angle board are stapled together
Lee Jackson, Alan Penny, Dave Brett, Garry Pedder, Nathan Kelly – AMDS UKAMDS MANCHESTER – BD WEST SSC - UK
Description of Risk:
The handling of accessories within the warehouse has to be done with the overhead crane. To avoid the
accessory swinging the operator has to guide it putting his hand on it, having the risk of cutting or smashing the
hand.
Proposed solution:
Now, handling accessories is a lot safer; the
operator guides them with the help of a device
that eliminates the need to touch the accessory.
Carlos Paulino – AMDS CONSTRUCTION - CARTAXO – PORTUGAL
Description of Risk:
Cut Hands hazard when separating oiled flat steel sheets or bent steel sheets.
Necessary to use force to separate sheets (sliding resistance). In some cases, a steel strip (make shift tool) was used
with possible risk of slips, or cutter blade with risk of breakage.
Proposed solution:
Implementation of oyster knives: suitable tool, no risk of cuts with the blade (blunt and not sharp blade) Protected
hand (on handle shell), no risk of breakage (thick lade)
Description of Risk: After welding, welder has to clean the welded part. In case of small welded construction, he holds the part in one hand and in his second hand he has the grinder. There is a risk that the part slips and hurts the welder’s hand.
Proposed solution: Make a gripping tool for each welded construction which will keep the part during grinding. The welder can then hold the grinder in both hands.

Artur Wilk & Jakub Otrząsek - AMDS BD EAST EUROPE
Description of Risk:
To empty the scrap bin from the shear, the operator uses their hands and all requested PPE, but there was still a risk of
cut.
Proposed Solution:
Use of 2 slings inside the bin. Slings being at the bottom of the bin
Emmanuel L’Heritier - AMDS CONSTRUCTION - THOUARE SUR LOIRE
Description of Risk:
After being used to check quality of the product, the samples are thrown away on a table. At the end of the shift the
operator has to take all those sample to the scrap bin
Proposed Solution:
A two-grip box the size of the sample so the operator can take all samples at once to the scrap bin. There is no contact
with sharp edges of sample anymore
Hamid Daamouch – AMDS CONSTRUCTION - CONTRISSON COIL COATING
Description of Risk:
Operators using metallic samples are exposed to risk as the edges of the samples are not protected, the use of glove
protection makes the use of analysis instruments and keyboards difficult and inconvenient
Proposed solution:
Protect the edges of each sample with tape.
Hamid Daamouch – AMDS CONTRISSON COIL COATING
Description of Risk: During the packaging and banding process of sheets there is the risk to injure and squeeze fingers and hands.
Proposed Solution: With a packaging bench the worker does not have to have direct contact with the material The U-channel secures a safe procedure with steel straps (for illustration with green plastic strap). The hollow sections help to stack the sheets parallel. The guide profile is variable for several sizes. The whole package can be handled with the forklift. Furthermore the bench has a comfortable working height (back protection).
Description of Risk: Exposure of moving machinery.
Proposed Solution: Fencing that adapts open or closed levelling machine and protect workers...
Proposed Solution: Implementation of pneumatic grinder tool with extension (800mm)
Description of risk: During polishing phase of rolls in tool setting on welding line risk of losing fingers and even upper limbs
Description of Risk:
Handballing…
Description of Risk:
When handling small packs with chains it is possible to pinch fingers between the links of the chains
Description of Risk: During the splitting of slit coils the inside laps sometimes come out of line with the coil wall and need to be pushed back in before the coils can be banded.
Proposed solution: Wooden strip is used so hands / arms are not placed in trapping points. Metal bar trialled and too heavy. Using a lightweight aluminium paddle pole to realign slit coil inside laps. This also has a hand guard which helps to keep the operators hands safely out of trapping points
Description of Risk:
The crane often knocks the dunnage/ separators which then need to be aligned before product is lowered, employees
are at risk from crushing injuries with hands below lifted product…
Proposed Solution:
Yellow landmark at each metre point. Implement a simple landmark on the trailer structure to show the right position of the wood in order to avoid the risk of the alignment between a piece of wood and a lifting device
Description of Risk:
When using tool to guide steel, tool would often slip and operator would still need to use hand to guide product
(especially when working outside during adverse weather conditions)
95 cm
50 mm
Proposed Solution:
The functionality associated with the rotating head 360°, the
angle of inclination of the handle to 45 °and a strong clamp;
ensure the steel is guided securely without the need to touch
the product
Description of Risk:
Gloves do not protect arms, even when wearing gloves operators at risk of injuring wrists, gloves with wrist protection
are more expensive than normal gloves
Proposed Solution: The sleeves of work clothes have been equipped with a system allowing passage of the thumb. This system permits the worker to move his arms without becoming uncovered. This allows the use of standard gloves while ensuring effective protection of the wrist. More financially viable to change clothing than gloves as gloves are changed more often
Use of heavy duty magnets to separate bundles
Coloured gloves (fluorescent type) improve the visibility of hands of co-workers.
Modification of the cutter (A210103790), so it enters through small bandings without a problem
In the warehouse the floor is sloppy and uneven. The floors were levelled with steel beams. We used our own material, so it was low cost. Now we don‘t need to use wood bars anymore
The packing ribbon/band is inserted into the slit of the leading bar and then carried out under the metals or other material. The hands don't touch the sharp metals. Steel ribbon and synthetic material ribbon can be processed. The tool is made very simply from a flat-bar steel 30 X3 mm.
