4 Differences Between Animal and Plant Cells
Animal cells have a larger nucleus.
Plant cells have large central vacuoles for storage.
Plant cells have an extra outer protective layer called the cell wall which gives the cell rigidity.
Plant cells have chloroplasts which help the plant produce food during photosynthesis. They also contain a green pigment, chlorophyll, which gives plants and trees their color.
Main Parts of the CellMain Parts of the Cell
NucleusNucleus - the “control center” of the cell. It contains the cell’s DNA.
Cell MembraneCell Membrane - outer boundary of the cell.
Cell WallCell Wall - Outer protective layer of plant cell.
CytoplasmCytoplasm - jelly-like fluid interior of the cell.
MitochondriaMitochondria - the “powerhouse” of the cell - energy center. Turns food into useable energy (ATP)
RibosomesRibosomes - make protein
VacuolesVacuoles - stores water; plants have a large central vacuole
