Animal Puzzle Adventure is puzzle game devel-oped by CIRCLE Entertainment and published by Aksys Games. It was originally released in late 2009 for Apple’s App Store, but made its way to DSiWare shortly thereafter. Starring a young girl named Chilia, the game revolves around manoeu-vring multiple animals at once, in a similar style to games like Robot Rescue (minus the complica-tions).

The goal of each level is to get every animal into their home. However, every animal moves at the same time, so it won’t be easy. Move the animals by using the D-Pad (DSiWare) or by sliding on your screen/tilting (iOS version). Push animals into objects like fences or rocks to cause other the animals to move while the pushing creature stays stationary. Be careful not to fall into the holes or off of the stage, or else you’ll have to restart the stage! For each level you clear, you will receive a fragment of a photo, which allows you to change the main menu’s wallpaper once you’ve collected 10 pieces.

Throughout this walkthrough, we will refer to several terms in helping you through the various levels. “Difficulty level” is exactly what it sounds like, ranking the challenge of a specific stage out of 5 (based on a comparison to all 50 levels) and giving you an idea of just how hard you’ll find the level if you go at it yourself.

“Strategy” offers hints for those who are strug-gling to complete the level and need a hint, but still want the sense of accomplishment that comes with doing it yourself. Finally, “solution” denotes a set of exact steps to complete a puzzle, just in case you get really, really stuck. Please note that not all of the solutions given are necessarily the fastest routes. After all, we want to leave some-thing to challenge you once you’ve completed all 50 levels!

World One

Stage 1

Difficulty Level: 1

Strategy: This one shouldn’t take more than five seconds or 10 movements. Put the cats on both sides of the two logs and simply stretch them out twice for a purrfect vic-tory.

Difficulty Level: 1

Strategy: Similar to the last stage, but vertical. Push one cat against the log and push the protruding cat twice from the opposite direction to get them together in a vertical line. Prowl into the houses once again.

Difficulty Level: 1

Strategy: Either circle around the fence from either side or head straight down and rear-range them as you place the two cats in the bottom holes.

Strategy: Get the dogs into a triangular formation by pushing against the fences on both sides.

Strategy: Squish all the cats together in a 2x3 formation like houses at the top. The easiest way is to put them all in the bottom area from the get-go. Be sure to utilise the edges near the bottom part of the fence.

Stage 6

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: You will have to ar-range the cats into a horizontal pair in order to access the mid-section. This can be achieved by using the rock and log just before the middle. Rearrange them again once you get to the other side.

Stage 7

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: Start by pushing against the rocks in front of the fence. One easy way is to com-plete the stage is to use the top fence once you get the cats into an L shape, which allows you to get up to the top fence easily.

Stage 8

Difficulty: 2

Strategy: What makes this stage slightly annoying is the fact that the exterior isn’t fenced. You need to get two cats in the fenced houses and have the other two in a pair on either side.

Stage 9

Difficulty: 3

Strategy: This stage is not so much “difficult” as it is lengthy and easy to fall off at a slight mistake. You’ll want to start by forming a triangular shape around the fence near the high-est hole. The next key position is located close to the houses, with two dogs on the middle and right houses and one di-agonally from the middle dog. Push the protruding dog into the object and complete the hardest level in World 1.

Difficulty: 2

Strategy: So long as you can group the cats together neatly, you shouldn’t have a problem falling of the ledges at the bottom of the map. Using the two fences, get the cats into one row, except for one cat up top. If you’ve been completing stages in order, you’ll obtain your first Gallery image here. You could say it’s practically a mewseum.

Stage 1

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: Use the logs to create two parallel vertical rows. From here, use the top-right part of the bottom fence to create horizontal distance between the two rows. Once the distance between the cats can no longer be expanded via the fence, return to the logs to increase the gap once more.

Stage 2

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: The prime example of a stage that is actually easier done than said. The first key position is a row of four start-ing two spaces below the barrel and ending with the fifth cat one space below the other four. Separate three members of the group into a triangle around the bush, while the bottom cat from before gains another part-ner. Slide into position while bumping the cat on the far right into the object to be victorious.

Strategy: The idea here is to get the two cats in the mid-dle section (which prevents them from moving so long as you don’t fiddle around) with the logs and barrels, while the third cat enters and heads to the house.

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: Get the three dogs into a backwards L shape starting at the highest fence. Put a dog on each side of the map and try to keep the high dog safe. Push the group into position once the two dogs arrive at the proper locations.

Strategy: This stage is very open-ended and allows for several approaches. The goal is to use the terrain to create two horizontal rows of dogs with a one space gap between them. Do this and simply head down into the houses.

Strategy: The easiest way to do this is to have a group of three on one side and a group of two go through the other side. Carefully manoeuvre the cats on both sides to ensure they don’t go off the top of the map. When you arrive at the top, spend some time rearranging them for a lengthy but fairly easy vic-tory.

Strategy: In the top half, arrange the cats in two verti-cal rows with a one space gap between them. Have the row on the right one square higher than the other when you head down. From here, you’ll arrange the group into a horizontal line of four, before separating them again and completing the puzzle.

Strategy: Start by arranging your pigs into a vertical line. Head to the fence on the right and separate the top pig. While keeping all pigs in the same grid line, have the separated pig go to the top on its own. Take the other two pigs to the fence and create a gap between them, then head to the goal.

Difficulty Level: 3

Strategy: Start by getting the cats into one horizontal line via the rock on the right. From here, use the objects to get the third and fourth cats to pro-trude one space upward (still in a “row”). Move them to the right, creating three groups in the process, and then create a gap with the third group to raise them above the other two groups. Slide into position.

Difficulty Level: 5

Strategy: This one is pure agony if you don’t know what you’re doing. The general idea is to get one cat into the top fence and to have the other cat below it. From there, you can bring up the two other cats. This may sound simple, but it is argu-ably the second most difficult stage in the game (and it is just as hard to describe in detail).

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: It may seem intimi-dating at first, but it’s surpris-ingly easy. Move the cat to the left, and then push against the left object. This allows the dog to move up the same path. Have the cat run into the log at the top until the dog comes upward, then simply rearrange them using the objects. Re-member that dogs go in blue houses and that cats go in red.Note: A similar tactic can be used with the dog, but it is

Difficulty Level: 3

Strategy: The goal is to get one pair firmly locked in a fenced area while the other pair is close enough that moving will not cause pair 1 to leave the fence.

Difficulty Level: 1

Strategy: What makes this stage so easy is both the actu-al puzzle and that you cannot fall out of the stage. To top it all off, it’s fairly easy to keep the two pairs in sync. Sim-ply push all the animals to the right and rearrange them upon arrival. A tactical player can get it done in fewer than 20 moves, while random fid-dling can get it done in about 50.

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: Start by pushing the pig and one cat to the left, until you pass the hole with both. Bring over the other cat to the vertical line of four stumps on the left, press down, and then slide into the triangular position around the barrel.

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: This stage is but a matter of rearranging one cat and creating distance from the dogs. Get the cats into an L-like shape (with the bot-tom part of the L one space below the first cat in the line). Separate the dogs into the two fences then bring two cats into one fence. Bring the other two remaining cats into the upper fence.

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: This one is very easy to figure out, so long as you start by heading down with both groups and cross-ing the hole in the ground. One by one, work on insert-ing the dogs and pigs, mak-ing sure to carefully watch what will happen when you move a certain direction.

Strategy: Start by getting into a group of six, then separate the dogs onto the left (keeping the cats pushed against the rocks). Stop when the first dog reaches one space past the left fence, then go up to the blue house. Bring everyone to the right twice, then move up and enter the houses.

Difficulty Level: 1

Strategy: This stage is ex-tremely easy, as it is essentially just a reversal of the dogs with the cats. Bring the cats up to meet the dogs at the rock on the top of the map (so that the four animals are in a row). Move the dogs to the right path. Send the dogs down while the cats stay in the top fence. When they arrive at the bottom, move both groups of animals left and enter the houses once they are in position.

Stage 9

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: The easiest way to complete this stage is by first reversing the cat and the dog (who begin at the top and bot-tom respectively). Next, posi-tion the left and right dogs so that there is a one space gap between them and they are be-tween the fences. Bring down the cat and dog and complete the level.

Difficulty Level: 3

Strategy: This stage can be tricky due to all the potential fallouts that accompany a party of four. Focus on get-ting the cats close together while getting the dogs seal-ing in the fenced area. With enough manoeuvring, you should reach victory in less than 50 steps.

Stage 1

Difficulty Level: 4

Strategy: This stage can be quite a catastrophe, because it is common to have one animal one space away from the desired space. Start by getting the dog into the right-most space of the top fence, with one cat diagonally to the right and another cat under it. Send the cats down a few spaces, but first send the dog to the left. Separate the cats, move the dog, adjust distance, and then enter the houses.

Difficulty Level: 1

Strategy: This stage is ridicu-lously easy, but getting a low movement count is more tax-ing. Simply send one dog at a time through the top or bottom of the fence, making sure to keep the other animals away from the ledges.

Stage 3

Difficulty Level: 1

Strategy: If you thought the previous level was extremely easy, here’s an even easier level. The only place you can fall is a beginner’s trap. Get a dog and cat into the fence (with a dog on the left), then bring a dog with a cat once again to meet the other pair.

Stage 4

Difficulty Level: 1

Strategy: Were you expecting a challenge? Again, this stage only runs the risk of giving you a high move count. Start by bringing home the bacon (it helps to divide the eight animals as much as possible). Once the two pigs are in, bring the six cats down and arrange them using the rocks if neces-sary.

Stage 5

Difficulty Level: 5

Strategy: This is probably why the last few stages were easy – even veterans can end up with well over 80 moves. Ugh. This is a candidate for hard-est level in the game, yet there aren’t even any holes to fall out of the map. Start by getting all of the dogs above the top fenced area, so that they line up with the pigs. From here, send all the pigs

down, and eventually get to a position where the dogs are all up top and completely unaligned with all the pigs (except one pig on the far right, who will head up with the dogs).

The extra dog will be in the center area, below the dog on the left. Have the dogs move two spaces down, while the pigs move to the left and pile up into a horizontal line of five. Send the dog and cat

who are on the far right over to the far left, to where the blue and brown houses are. Spread out the dogs and the pigs, so that they now land on their respec-tive houses. The pig on the far right will not align, so push into the fence so that it does.

The pig and dog that used to be on the far left in the indented fence will now be in the center while eve-ryone else is pushed against a fence and on a house. Send them over to the left and complete the most agonizing stage in the game.

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: This can be tax-ing initially, but it’s mostly a matter of staying in synch. Bring the felines down to the canines, and then proceed to swap out one in each pair. You’re likely to rack up a movement count of over 50.

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: A quick and pain-less stage, not much to see here. Swap one dog for one cat (in accordance with the house pattern), use the lower rocks to create distance between the mixed pairs, and then enter the goal. Don’t forget that dogs go in blue houses and cats go in red.

Difficulty Level: 3

Strategy: Minimalist design, yet potentially frustrating. Essentially, you need to get one dog and one pig into the center of the opposite side. You need to do this without totally destroying the setup as well, or you can end up with over 200 movements (ouch).

Difficulty Level: 1

Strategy: Create a horizontal line of cat, pig, and cat. Push against the rock from the bot-tom, and...that’s it. Certainly not a meowthful, is it?

Stage 10

Difficulty Level: 4

Strategy: Start by getting into a square position with two pigs on top and two cats on the bottom. Next, split the group and send them to the top so that a cat resides in the top right of the fence, with a pig diago-nally right of it. The left side should have a cat on the brown house, with a pig to the right of it. Go down until the pig is one space away from falling out of the stage. Adjust the group’s positions and head into the houses.

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: Consider this your review stage. All you need to do is divide the three animals in the order of dog, cat, pig (each with a one space gap between them and the cat be-ing lower than the other two). You may need to use the rock to change the cat’s height once you get the group to the bottom part of the stage.

Stage 2

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: Nothing too chal-lenging, just remember what colour house corresponds with the animal (red for cat, blue for dog, and brown for pig). Start by getting the pig above the other animals, then get the cats together, then put the dog on the right side. Use the fences to full advantage if you want the lowest possible movement count.

Difficulty Level: 2

Strategy: To begin, swap the cat to the left side and the move dog to the top while making sure the pig stays down there. Keep the dog lined up with the pig and the cat should fall into place after pushing into objects a few times. It’s some pretty self explanatory stuff here.

Difficulty Level: 3

Strategy: This looks like a cakewalk, but there’s actually very little room to manoeuvre. Try to stay as close together as possible, unless you can pull off a diagonal pattern (which is still somewhat limited in terms of mobility). Staying near the bottom half does have its merits.

Stage 5

Difficulty Level: 4

Strategy: You’re in for a lengthy and thoroughly chal-lenging bout here. Start by splitting up the group and rearranging them so that the cat stands on the top pigpen with a pig to the left of it. The pen below it should have a pig on it, with a dog to the left of it. A pig should be two spaces below the dog, on the other side of the fence. The cat, dog, and one pig should be lined up vertically and walk into the houses at the same time as the two other pigs walk into the pig pen.

Strategy: Having a lot of space is useful...but not when you’ve got 10 animals bunched together and you’re expected to do a complete reversal with them. As you push into the two rocks near the middle, you can remove animals in pairs of two. Use these to get all the dogs on the top and the cats on the bottom. Make liberal use of the fence on the right if animals start to stray close to ledges or need to return to the group.

Difficulty Level: 5

Strategy: Start by squishing all four animals into the bottom right side of the fence in a square formation. The pig should be able to leave the fence, with a cat next to it and two dogs above both animals. Separate the groups and bring them down in pairs. One dog goes with the pig on the right side, while the other dog goes with the cat on the left. Rearrange them into diagonal pairs, with the non-dog animal go-ing on the diagonally lower left. When the two dogs are on the same grid line and have a three space distance between them, slide the cat and pig into the fence. Slide the dogs in as well, to complete another agonizing stage. Give yourself a cat – er, pat¬ on the back.

Strategy: This is slightly confusing at first, but it becomes easy once you know the methods needed to stretch out the animals. Start by performing a reversal of the animals via the two rocks near the starting point. Use the gates, rocks, and stump to rearrange the animals as you please, and you’ll be done in no time.

Strategy: Depending on your approach, this can be easy and lengthy and fast and irritating. The slower way to deal with things is to bunch the group to-gether and head for the middle, then simply rearrange one you arrive there. With this method, you may reach perhaps 70-100 moves.

The second method is to rear-range the group without going the middle section, simply

manoeuvring the barn-dwellers around the initial fences so that the cats and dogs occupy the top left and bottom left fence corners in horizontal pairs. The pig should be pressed against the left part of the middle fence so that it aligns with one cat and one dog that are not in the corners. Simply slide into position from here for a quicker 20-40 move victory.

Strategy: This is it – the final stage. This is a deceptively straightforward-look-ing stage with a background more colourful and unique than any previous stage. The best thing? It’s not the hardest one! Focus on getting all of the animals into the fence except for one cat, which will stay outside relatively near to its home. Simply reorient them one they are inside and slipped into their respective areas. Just be sure to keep close eye on the cat who is not in the fence, as he can mess up the entire process and force you to begin to stage anew (or press back many times for iOS users). Also make sure to use those fences to their full advantage. Once you’ve done that...
