Erasmus MundusJoint Master Degrees
What is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD)?
Delivered by a consortium of universities from Program countries + Partner countries (if relevant)
Cooperation with Partner countries is encouraged Length of EMJMD can be 12, 18 or 24 months (60, 90 or 120 ECTS
respectively) Duration of the project: 1 preparatory year + 3 intakes
(5 years maximum) Between 13-20 students per intake: 39-60 students in total

What is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD)?
Mandatory study period in at least 2 different Program countries (at least two mobility periods for all students)
Offer full scholarships for the best master students Support to at least 4 invited scholars/guest lecturers engaged in
the program for min. 8 weeks Fully recognized joint or multiple degrees Joint degrees are encouraged, if national legislation allows Continuation of Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses (2009-2013)

Main Objectives
Foster excellence, quality improvements, innovation, internationalization at universities
Increase quality and attractiveness of the European Higher Education Area
Improve the level of competences and skills of Master graduates, in particular their relevance for the labor market

Increased budget for the 7-year-period (around 1 billion euros, allowing to support around 30.000 scholarship holders and 350 EMJMD programs)

Basics of Application Process
Consortium partners can be public or private organizations located in Program or Partner countries: universities & non-academic partners (enterprises, NGOs, foundations, etc.)
Applicant organization must be a university established in a Program country and applies on behalf of the consortium
At least 3 universities as full partners from at least 3 different Program countries
Universities in Program countries must have a valid Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) and a Participant Identification Code (PIC) – METU already has both!
Associated partners possible: contribute indirectly to the EMJMD

Call 2015
Application to EACEA (not to the local National Agencies) Deadline: March 4, 2015 – 12:00 CET (projects start between August 1 - October 31, 2015 with prep. year) Budget: 34,6 M€ + 25,6 M€ from other political instruments # of projects: 18 EMJMDs # of scholarships per intake/per project:
• 13 (around 39 per grant agreement)• 4 (optional) for different regions of Partner countries

Award Criteria
Relevance of the project (max 30 pts) Quality of the project design and implementation (max 25 pts) Quality of the project team & the cooperation arrangements (max 20 pts) Impact and dissemination (max 25 pts)To be considered for funding, proposals must score at least 70 pointsCritical Thresholds:
at least 75 % (22,5 pts) of the maximum allocated points for «relevance»
at least 60 % of the maximum allocated points for each of the remaining award criteria

Additional Scholarships
Applicant university may apply for additional scholarships for one or more regions/ countries of the world:
Asia, Central Asia, Middle East, South Africa, Latin America, Eastern - Southern neighbors, Gulf countries
Funded through the EU external financing instruments Up to 4 additional student scholarships per intake (per EMJMD
edition)

Award Criterion for Additional Scholarships
«Relevance of the project in the target region»
Cooperation with Partner countries in the target region is encouraged
Methods used to attract highly talented students from the identified region
At least 2,5 pts per region must be taken under this criterion

Financial Support
Management of the consortium and implementation of the EMJMD for 3 consecutive intakes
Supporting the costs of invited scholars/guest lecturers

Details of Financial Support / Universities
EU grant: around 3 million EUR for the entire project period (max. 5 years)
Lump sum for consortium management 170.000 EUR: 20.000 EUR for the preparatory year + 50.000 EUR per intake
For the 3 intakes total budget of the project will not change

Students will apply through EACEA webpage and make preferences for
maximum 3 EMJMD programs selection will be made by the consortium and not individual
partners must have a first higher education degree or equivalent should not have received an EM Master Course scholarship in the

receive full scholarship covering participation costs, travel and living costs
are covered by health and accident insurance
