r cently returned from my second bicycle tour in Ireland. Last year I biked the· alway and Connemara Tour and this year, the Ring of Kerry. Lee Austin also

w nt on both tours. Irish Cycling Safaris (ICS) is a small, family-owned, Dubl·n-based cycling tour company. The cost of a 6-day tour is approximately $450. This ncludes B&B or hotel accommodations, large Irish breakfasts, new hybrid touring 15-sp ed bikes (a 20 pound refund is given if you provide your own bike), bike bags, helm ts, raingear, a guide and sagwagon. Most American tours charge 4 times that amou t ( and charge for the bikes too). They do, however, include lunches and dinners.

he daily ride averages 35 miles, but they offer extended routes for those who wai1t he11i. Tl1e groups are approximately 20 riders from ali over the worid. lCS offers 6 tours and 2 self-guides tours. We usually met at an optional designated lunch stop, inner reservations were made by the tour guide at a local restaurant, and the eveni g usually ended with a pub visit, often featuring local musicians.

Road Commission Update

T he Road Commission, since the passage of the increased gas tax has kept its

promise to overcoat some of the worst places on the Huron River Drive between Ann Arbor and Mast Road. More than one half of the road is now a delight for any bike rider.

In addition to the Huron River Drive, an additional one and a half miles have been overcoated on the Dexter-Chelsea Road. Maybe, before winter arrives, the worst places on the Cavanaugh Lake Road will be overcoated.
