The Phytochemical Society of Europe (PSE) was founded in 1957. Its aim is to promote the under- standing of natural products in respect of their chemistry, function, biosynthesis, and effects on the physiology and pathologyof living organisms. A further objective is the application of such knowledge in agriculture and industry. Successful meetings in 2012 The meeting “Natural Anticancer Drugs” was held in Olomouc, Czech Republic June 30th–July 4th (http:// www.nad2012.com/), and was co-sponsored by the PSE and the Palacky University in Olomouc. PSE President WieslawOleszek represented the Society in the opening ceremony of this very successful meeting, which was organised by Professor MiroslavStrnad and his colleagues from the Czech Republic scientific community. Keynote lectures weredelivered by Jiri Bartek, DorianoFabbro, Michael Groll, Stephan Knapp, Yves Pommier and Dave Newman, and themeeting attracted about 300 participants. The PSE extends its thanks to Professor Strnad for his efforts in organising the conference, and for the excellent outcome. The Phytochemical Society of Europe

In order to advance phytochemical research, the PSE undertakes a number of activities:• Organisation of several scientifi c meetings each year and publication of the proceedings in the peer-reviewed-

journal ‘‘Phytochemistry Reviews’’.We are pleased to announce that the 2011 Impact Factor for Phytochemistry Reviews – the journal’s fi rst – is 4.333. The journal is ranked 17 of 190 in the category plant sciences.

• The PSE – (sponsor company) Prize is awarded annually to an outstanding young phytochemist.• The Jeffrey Harborne Award is given to young scientists giving outstanding oral and/or poster presentations

atPSE Young Scientists’ Meetings.• PSE provides Travel Bursaries for young scientists to present their research at PSE meetings.

NOTE: Due to the fact that our agreement with APIVITA expired, there will be no PSE-APIVITA prize for 2013 provided. We are looking for a new company willing to sponsor PSE-Company prize for the next fi ve years. Interested companies should contact President of PSE Prof. Simon Gibbons [email protected] . Ideas on the topics of future meetings can be e-mailed to President as well.

Benefits of PSE membership

Membership of the PSE is worldwide and open to anyone with an interest in plant natural products and relatedfi elds. Members benefi t from:
