WELCOME TO HAMILTON

Message from Host Committee…

As the chair of the Ontario Municipal Information Systems Association (MISA) 2018

Conference and the Director of Information Technology for the City of Hamilton, I speak on

behalf of the Committee in saying we are extremely excited to host the 2018 MISA Ontario

Annual Conference and Trade Show. The 2018 Conference will be held from Sunday,

June 3 – Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Hamilton Convention Centre.

The theme of our conference is Ambitious Communities. The City of Hamilton is honoured

to have the privilege of hosting this year’s conference. As professionals in the Information

Technology sector, we are transforming the way we operate to continuously improve our

ability to meet the challenges of the community we service.

The sessions at our conference will focus on how Information Technology enables us to

improve service delivery, engages the community, contributes to growth and prosperity,

supports health and safety, the environment and ultimately supports a community where

people want to live, raise their children and age successfully.

We are experiencing a high degree of interest in this conference and would strongly

encourage you to confirm your commitment soon to ensure your preferences can be

accommodated and are still available.

As always, the annual MISA conference’s success depends on your participation and

support. I hope we can work together on a sponsorship opportunity that will allow all

of us to build and support Ambitious Communities.

Yours Truly,

Maria McChesney

Director Information Technology Service

City of Hamilton

CONFERENCE DETAILS

DAY ONE:

The conference Golf Tournament tees off Sunday at

the Chedoke Civic Golf Club on the Beddoe Course

featuring wonderful mature parkland and rolling terrain,

beautiful tree lined fairways and the hazardous Chedoke

Creek, surrounded by the Niagara Escarpment. If you’re

not into golfing, don’t worry, we have something fun for

everyone at the Alternate Activity. Enjoy a day out at the

renowned Collective Arts Brewery where you will be

treated to a brewery tour and tastings capped

off with a fun and indulgent chocolate making workshop.

These activities will be the first of many great networking

opportunities in a friendly and informal setting.

Sunday evening, as everyone is getting settled in for

the Conference, head across the street to the beautiful

Art Gallery of Hamilton for our Welcome Reception

Dinner. Spend an evening networking with peers and

friends amongst the art exhibits and to the sounds

of live jazz.

DAY TWO:

This year’s Awards Dinner (Monday evening) will be

a night filled with fun, laughter and toe tapping sing-a-

long performances.

DAY THREE:

Tuesday’s social event never disappoints and this year

will be no different. We’ll start the night with a leisurely

pub crawl through Hamilton’s historic Hess Village and

finish off with a big close out bash at the magnificent

century old historic mansion - The Scottish Rite Club.

And who could forget about the informative and

educational Breakout Sessions and our amazing

Trade Show – taking place all day Monday and

Tuesday. An open floor plan provides maximum time

with delegates, opportunities to hear our Keynote

Speakers and enjoy food and drink while meeting

with like-minded IT professionals.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

KIRK WEISLER

KEYNOTE SPEAKER, MONDAY JUNE 4

With over eighteen years of executive coaching, speaking, research,

and professional experience, Kirk Weisler’s perspective is simple and

unpretentious and his suggestions are applicable and undiluted. Kirk

understands that your work life is more than a commute and a pay cheque.

You will spend most of your conscious week at work, thinking about work,

or driving to work. Kirk believes in seeing your work life as your life’s work

(outside of your home and family). With that in mind, how can you make

your life’s work more meaningful, fulfilling, and rewarding?

DR. MARTHA LENIO

KEYNOTE SPEAKER, TUESDAY JUNE 5

Dr. Martha Lenio, born and raised in Waterloo, Ontario, has had a life- long

interest in both space exploration and environmental issues. Martha earned

a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University

of Waterloo in 2004, and completed a doctorate in Photovoltaic Engineering

from the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia) in 2013. She has

worked in the sustainable building industry, the photovoltaics industry, and

academia. From 2014 to 2015 she commanded an 8 month Mars simulation

with the Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation (HI-SEAS), funded

by NASA. She has now started her own company, Mars Green Consulting,

focused on renewable energy consulting and smart grid design. She is also

working for WWF-Canada on an Arctic Renewable Energy project focused

on bringing green energy to Nunavut.

TRADE SHOW INFORMATION WHY SHOULD YOUR COMPANY EXHIBIT AT THE MISA ONTARIO 2018 ANNUAL

CONFERENCE & TRADE SHOW?

The Hamilton Convention Centre will be home for all our daytime activities at this year’s conference. This will include the

Trade Show, Plenary Area, Session Rooms, as well as the Registration Desk for the Monday and Tuesday of the conference.

The Trade Show will be set up much like previous years with exhibitors, plenary sessions (Keynote Speakers), as well as

breakfast, lunch, and breaks on the Trade Show floor (subject to floor space availability). Breakfast, lunch and break stations

will be strategically placed in and around the trade show floor, allowing delegates additional time to be spent with vendors.

Educational streams and presentations will take place in break out rooms, which are conveniently located in very close

proximity to the trade show floor.

As always in planning this event, MISA Ontario endeavours to ensure that we are addressing the needs of municipalities,

municipal IT departments, delegates and our partner and affiliate members. Our goal in hosting the MISA Ontario 2018

Annual Conference and Trade Show is to ensure that all attendees (Municipal IT Employees and Partners) get maximum

value out of this conference, whether it be by:

• Making new connections and building your network with

municipal IT professionals

• Investing in your professional development

• Learning best practices from other municipalities and/or

vendor partners

• Increasing brand awareness

• Marketing your products and services

• And having a great time.

The MISA Ontario 2018 Annual Conference and Trade Show program is being continuously refined to provide informal and

ongoing interaction between attendees and exhibitors.
