Applications to King’s
King’s offers over 140 undergraduate programmes across a broad spectrum of subjects
• 5500 places available
• 46000 applications for those places
• 50% are within five areas:
• Informatics
• Law
• Medicine
• Management studies
• Nursing and Midwifery
A-levels
• Requirements from A*AA–BBB
• Required and Preferred Subjects
• Check the online prospectus
• Entry requirements as transparent as we can make them – no secret blacklists or better choices
• General Studies/Critical Thinking not considered in offers
• 4th AS only required for Medicine and Dentistry
• EPQ can be offered instead
A-level reforms
• Ofqual asserting new A-levels in England are same demand as old ones – as are QW and CCEA
• Science practical endorsement required for all programmes
• AS not used for most programmes
• We appreciate the additional challenge in predicting grades
• 4th AS requirement in Medicine and Dentistry waived if AS not offered
• Please make sure to mention this in your reference
GCSEs
Some programmes have minimum requirements for English, Mathematics and Science (e.g. Nursing)
Performance across GCSEs is considered in some of the most competitive programmes (e.g. Law, Medicine)
No plans to use Grade 9 in the near future

International Baccalaureate
• Overall: 35 points out of 45
• A*AA 766• AAA 666• AAB 665• ABB 655• BBB 555 and 32 points
5,000 applications750+ enrolled per year
Access to HE Diploma
• Accepted for all programmes
• Specific diploma may be required
• Generally flexible about not receiving predicted grades until January if application is submitted earlier
A*AA 39 modules at Distinction, rest at Merit AAA 36 modules at Distinction, rest at Merit AAB 33 modules at Distinction, rest at Merit ABB 30 modules at Distinction, rest at Merit BBB 30 modules at Distinction, 12 M and 3 P
BTEC
• Full review of admissions requirements conducted last year
• Extended Diploma accepted for Nursing and Midwifery BScs
• Other programmes require one or two academic qualifications in the mix
• Will continue to review in light of BTEC reforms
A*AA D*DD 14 modules at Distinction AAA DDD 13 modules at Distinction AAB DDD 12 modules at Distinction ABB DDM 11 modules at Distinction BBB DDM 10 modules at Distinction
European Qualifications
• Standard entry requirements for most European countries on our website
• Admissions team able to provide detailed advice on subject requirements – we aim to be flexible
• English component now accepted to show English competence
Only applies to non-Tier 4 students
Proof of English
• IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and Trinity all accepted
• GCSE/IGCSE English Language
• IB English – HL or SL
• Expanded list of European qualifications that we’ll accept
• Check our website for details
English language requirements all come in one of four bands
A buyer’s market
• Expanding universities means more competition for students
• More offers being made, lots of students getting all five
• Unconditional offers (not at King’s)
• Alternative offers – giving students a wider range of options
• But not a backdoor onto their first-choice programme …

Competition law
• UK law sees HE offer as a contract
• Though universities won’t hold the student to their side
• Offer letters are likely to be longer and have far more caveats
• Applicants should also get more course info and key T&Cs
• May look more intimidating, but nothing’s really changed
• Benefit for students – better informed for choices, clearer next steps if they’re unhappy
