MISSION
To provide a safe and caring environment that inspires and enables all young people to realize their full potential as productive and responsible citizens.
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT While we have been a constant cornerstone in the Glen Cove community for over 100 years, we must continue to raise our bar in order to meet the expectations of our community and do what we do best… shape great futures. In 2012, one of our greatest accomplishments was our Youth of the Year, Kewan Beebe. Kewan was homeless and alone when he first came to the Club at the age of 13. The Club was a safe haven, a place of belonging and encouragement. Using his Club tools and the support of caring staff, Kewan turned his life around excelling both in the classroom and on the playing fields and eventually found a loving home and family. Kewan was accepted to SUNY New Paltz on a full basketball scholarship, the first male in his biological family to attend college.
We have many more poignant stories to tell of children who come to us from challenged backgrounds. Our goal is always to provide positive role models and life enrichment programs for each and every one of our members that will shape great futures full of hope and opportunity. This past year, we served 723 children overall, and on any given day, 120 – 150 children at the Club participated in a variety of programs designed to build self-esteem and encourage learning. We served nearly 14,000 meals, and 297 volunteers provided key supplementary support to our full and part time staff. As the only community on Long Island and one of five in New York State, the City of Glen Cove was chosen in 2012 by America’s Promise Alliance as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People in America. Our neighborhood is expanding at a greater pace than most in the U.S. and we, as a Club, must listen to and meet the needs of our member population. We are able to keep our doors open and answer the demands of our community because of our supporters, donors and volunteers. Thank you for believing in us, investing in our organization and our children and helping us shape great futures. Deborah M. Brisbane Board President
