It is my great p l e a s u r e t o welcome members of the Bible Society of Kenya, Trustees, Board of Governors and staff to the 46th National Annual General Meeting. We are grateful for your continued commitment to the work and ministry of Bible Society of
Kenya. We thank God for successful year 2016 irrespective of the changing social political and economic environment.
In line with Hosea 4:6 ‘My people perish due to lack of knowledge,’ BSK did a new strategic plan for 2017-2020 with
the overall theme of “Embracing Innovation for Greater Transformation.”
The process led to the development and adoption of a new vision, mission and core values as stated above. The Society was privileged to place 624,899 Bibles, 4,341 Testaments and 10,829 portions in people’s hands and we thank God because we know that interaction with God’s word brings positive transformation in people’s lives.
In our translation programmes we had five projects including; Teso, Ekegusii, Igikuria, Lusamia and Maasai revision. The revised Kalenjin Bible is set to be launched in 2017. The Oluluyia Bible was launched on July 11th 2016 at Bomani Grounds in Mumias, Kakamega County. We continued to run several Bible Advocacy and Scripture use programmes that included; Good Samaritan Programme, Faith Comes by Hearing, Trauma Healing, Children Outreach, Youth Outreach, and Literacy Programme.
Through these programmes, the Society has impacted people’s lives, given hope to the hopeless and encouraged the youth to grow in a godly and responsible manner. The Society continued to take her mission to the grassroots through its branches in Kakamega, Kisumu, Machakos, Kericho, Vihiga, Meru, Nyeri and Nairobi. Through these branches BSK was able to carry out various activities on the ground as well as recruit more members.
We thank our friends, partners and donors who have continued to faithfully support Bible work over the years. Through your generous support we have managed to carry out several successful projects to completion. May God richly bless you.
We thank God for the significant progress in the finalization of the process to purchase the UBS Westlands property. The Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA) agreed to lend to the Society and we are grateful.
Bible Society of Kenya was privileged to host African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI) conference for the first time in Kenya on 27th to 29th September and we thank God that it was a success. The event was attended by both local and international participants. The Deputy President and the Nairobi County Governor graced the opening ceremony and guests from different Bibles Societies in Africa and the UK attended the event.
In the year, we experienced challenges for example the directive by the Ministry of Education that students should not be asked to purchase reference materials which includes school Bibles. This affected the sale of school Bibles significantly.
I am grateful to God for allowing BSK members, trustees, board, advisory council, staff and volunteers to be part of the great work that He is doing to fulfil the great commission. As I reflect with joy on our achievements for 2016, I am thankful that we saw God’s kindness. As we look forward we are encouraged that God will continue to use us as vessels of honor as we serve in His vineyard.
