MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARDGiving to ACS has been a growing point of pride over the years and we are honored to be thanking more alumni, community contributors, school friends and families.

We did it BIG:

. 100% participation by trustees. The second year in a row of reaching over one million dollars in the annual fund. 527% increase in faculty giving. 66% increase in alumni participation. 43% increase in overall participation in the annual fund

Whether you have given ACS your time, financial support or both, your vote of confidence represents a tremendous commitment to each and every one of our students - a commitment that supports every aspect of an ACS education by funding our faculty and staff, our field trips, our athletic teams and our school-wide campus initiatives.

The number of names listed in the pages of this report is a great reminder to us all that we are not alone in this mission. We have a remarkable number of people to thank for making ACS the exemplary school it has become and continues to be.

This year, the board approved a new school-wide strategic plan that involved over 80 teachers, parents, administrators and trustees. This is but another example of the commendable education that ACS offers, thanks to your commitment to its development.

With heartfelt appreciation to all,

Nina Joukowsky Köprülü '79PresidentBoard of Trustees

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOLOnce more, thanks to your loyalty and generosity, the ACS Annual Fund surpassed the $1,000,000 mark, ensuring that we can sustain and strengthen the excellent programs and teaching that are the hallmark of an ACS education. We are grateful to all who contributed as we completed another terrific year at school.

Most of the annual funds raised are for general purposes or are to assist us with a specific project. Two years ago we created an initiative to enlarge and modernize and add more daylight to the cafeteria. That project turned out beautifully and last year we launched an effort to raise funds to refurbish the rooftop playground. Thanks to your generosity, we have leveled and resurfaced that space, added safe new fencing and provided our younger students with a fun new play apparatus and a safe and level play space. We also used gifts to the annual fund to support scholarships, and to assist us with countless other school needs.

In addition to our annual fund raising, last year we focused on raising capital funds to help us pay for our new building, to renovate our green field, to build a new high school science center, and to increase our endowment. The new building was completed last spring and now houses the Head of School apartment, 16 expat faculty apartments, four 5th grade classrooms, two elementary school language classrooms, and our music department, all in beautiful surroundings with great views and ample natural light. As you know, this is the first building ACS has constructed in 60 years and while it is already operational, we hope that many of you will want to continue to assist us with paying for its construction cost of $6.3 million. Last year we received a $500,000 grant from the USAID through the American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) to help us to build our new science labs, and we also received generous support from one of our Trustees for that project.

This year our fund raising efforts will continue to focus on our capital campaign and we will strive to raise another million dollars for the annual fund. This year’s specific annual fund project will be to renovate our two other playgrounds, creating a “nature playground” for our Early Years students, and revitalizing the Elementary School playground outside of the ES auditorium.

Academically we enjoyed an excellent year, aided in no small part by the outstanding ACS class of 2015. Our seniors provided us with great leadership and great attitudes as we raised our standards in almost every area from dress code, to literacy, to graduation requirements. Our testing improved; our college placement was strong; we had terrific participation in our Week Without Walls trips; our MUN students were lauded for their continued excellence and help to other school programs that were just getting started; and ACS students continued to contribute thousands of hours of meaningful community service.

We welcomed three new Principals last year as well as a new Deputy Head and Curriculum Coordinator; all five were terrific contributors to our leadership team, and all have contributed greatly to strengthening our school. We have an outstanding administrative team and faculty and staff in place this year, and I look forward to continued success.

It is my honor to lead ACS and to have a part in the growth and development of many of Lebanon’s most capable students. I am glad to have had the chance to meet so many of you in the past year, and hope that I can continue to count on your support as we move forward. Last year was outstanding by almost any measure, and with your help, there will be many, many more for ACS.

Think of ACS as a large investment, like buying a house. You have to make payments on your mortgage, but you also need to pay to keep the lights on. In the world of ACS fundraising, the capital campaign and endowment are like the long-term investment of mortgage payments, while the annual fund is like the immediate need to pay the utility bills.
