ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORT 2016

An Independent Public School

“Quality teaching empowering students

and improving performance”

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

It is with great pleasure that I present the Wundowie Primary School 2016 Annual School Report. This

report provides you with a snapshot of how Wundowie Primary School performed in 2016.

As an Independent Public School, Wundowie Primary is shaping the future of our children with a focus

on collaborative learning and local community engagement. Our parents, School Board and Parents &

Citizens (P&C) play active and important roles in our school.

Our staff is committed, proactive and dedicated to help each child to reach their potential. We have

high expectations and adopt a wide variety of innovative teaching practices. As a teacher of many

years myself, it is indeed a pleasure to be able to honour and thank our teachers, administration staff,

education assistants and custodians for the wonderful opportunities they provided throughout 2016.

The school’s teaching staff consisted of the principal, 5 fulltime teachers and 1 part time teacher. The

non-teaching staff comprised of the manager corporate services, school officer, library officer,

gardener, 4 education assistants and 3 cleaners.

Mrs Betty Grundy has retired after 21 years of working for the Department of

Education of WA. Mrs Betty Grundy’s job description has changed significantly

within those years here at Wundowie Primary School. She has been a dedicated;

practical; fun loving and hardworking assistant who kept the needs of the child at

the heart of what she did. She has made a significant contribution to public

education and I offer my best wishes for her retirement.

Throughout 2016 we have been accessing professional development opportunities in and out of

school; seeking out new ideas and strategies; refining teaching techniques; working through the

changing curriculum demands; taking on extra roles and responsibilities and much, much more. Some

of the professional learning focussed on effective reading instruction.

2016 was a year of celebrations! It was in the daily unfolding of school life where we found some of

the most exciting and rewarding stories – children who have learnt life lessons; children who have

persisted, practised and finally learnt something they never dreamt they would master; children who

have discovered a talent they didn’t know they had; children who found their voice; children who

have learnt from mistakes; children who saw the need and took initiative; children who have realised

that while it’s certainly something to be proud of, it isn’t really how smart you are, or how fast you run

that matters the most, but how hard you are prepared to use your gifts and to persist and work hard

to achieve your goals, that really counts. Thank you to you, our supportive parents, carers, students

for your commitment to our school and for being there. Together we have attained success for your

children and as the achievement standards continue to rise, we will meet the even higher goals that

have been set for 2017.

As principal, I regularly report to the School Board and the P&C on the school’s progress towards

implementing strategies within the Business Plan. The Wundowie Primary School Business Plan

2015-2017 was developed with significant input from staff and School Board members. We now have

to reflect progress against priorities and targets, and specific outcomes attached to funding for

targeted initiatives and State and nationally agreed priorities.
