Mary Willan Mason, the daughter of the late Healey Willan, has managed the Musical Estate of Healey Willan, fostering his music, managing royalties, permissions and copyrights, etc. since his death in 1968. With great zeal and fervor, she has tirelessly promoted his music in publica-tions, recordings and in performances. In June, 2011, Mary Willan Mason assigned the respon-sibility of continuing the musical legacy of Healey Willan to Rev. Scott A. Haynes, S.J.C., a priest of the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius in Chicago, who has founded the Healey Willan Soci-ety for the purpose of fostering the musical heritage of Healey Willan. While Willan’s music is known and loved by church choirs, organists and instrumental ensem-bles, much of his music in no longer in print or has never been published. After Johann Sebas-tian Bach, Healey Willan is the most prolific composer of church music. It is the goal of the Healey Willan Society to bring back into print as many musical works of Healey Willan as pos-sible. This will be available through Biretta Books, Ltd. The Healey Willan Society will foster an increase in the public performance of his musical works in churches, concert halls, etc., will produce audio recordings, and promote Maestro Willan through film, radio, the Internet and television, etc. The Healey Willan Society has produced a 1 hour and 20 minute documentary entitled The Man Behind the Music, in which Healey Willan’s musical, family and personal life come alive through the words of his daughter, Mary Willan Mason. The DVD is available through Biretta Books (www.BirettaBooks.com), as well as several of Healey Willan musical scores which are now being revived by the Healey Willan Society. To support the work of the Healey Willan So-ciety, donations are accepted to help put his musical works back into publication. Donations are made payable to “Healey Willan Society” and sent to: Healey Willan Society, Attn. Rev. Scott Haynes, S.J.C., 825 N. Carpenter St., Chicago, IL 60642.
