Why AntiFragile now?

The start of this decade has seen unprecedented levels of disruption across the globe.

Devastating bush fires here in Australia, the political fall-out of Brexit in Europe, the upcoming US elections, and most recently, COVID-19, the full implications of which are still unfolding.

The future is looking more uncertain than ever and we are struggling to cope.

A Whole New WorldThe post COVID-19 world will not be the same as before. Old leadership models were failing us then and they will do so again. We need a new approach to leadership.

Burnout and StressCOVID-19 is making the social and work environment more complex and unstable than ever over the coming months.. Leaders are not equipped for these uncertain times.

More with LessThe economic impact of COVID-19 will be felt for months and years to come. Leaders will need to do more with even less. Less time, fewer people and reduced resources. Leaders are feeling even more pressure.

Talent on New TermsTalent will be the differentiator in the post-COVID-19 world, with expectations of flexibility, integrity and purpose from leaders. Leaders are unsure of how to win this new talent war.

Fragility is not always exposed. When our environment is known, safe, simple and stable our fragility is not tested or exposed, and we are Surviving for now.

Whilst we may feel a level of ease, at the back of our minds we know this is temporary, and our fragility could be exposed at any time.

As our context becomes more volatile and uncertain, our fragility is tested and we can break under the pressure.

This is a pain point. We are struggling to cope with what is being asked of us and cannot see how we can leverage, or access, the resources we need to cope.

 Even as we become AntiFragile there are circumstances when disruption in our environment is low and we are living in comfort. Being here feels good and it can be a valuable time to reflect and consolidate learning. However, if we stay here too long, we risk becoming stagnant.  

But as we know, disruption, challenge and change are only ever ‘just around the corner’. When we are AntiFragile, we can cope with this as we thrive through striving. It often doesn’t feel comfortable here. Striving requires energy. The ROBUST principles help us develop the right energy, attitudes and mindset to keep going.

Becoming AntiFragile is not something we tick off. It is an ongoing journey as we face new challenges and opportunities.

It is an active, enduring, intentional process.

It is an infinite game.
