Royal Marsden Manualof Clinical Nursing
Procedures features
SAGE & THYME now features in the latest (ninth) edition of The Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures, edited by Lisa Dougherty and Sara Lister (who is a SAGE & THYME facilitator).
It is also part of the latest student edition of the Manual with an associated quiz. The section describes the model, the evidence behind it and the justification for each step. The Manual is recognised nationally as the definitive guide to clinical nursing skills. This recognition will make it easier for nurses and their managers to justify communications skills training using SAGE & THYME (see below also ‘The Code’ and the CQC inpatients surveys). There are many instances where you may wish to use the SAGE & THYME logo – on your intranet to advertise your workshops, or on a poster presenting your experience of running the workshops at a local/national conference.
UHSM is happy for you to use the logo and will provide a high-resolution image of it, as long as the text you wish to use is shared with UHSM first. The logo should not be used without UHSM's permission.
It's also worth noting that the official way of writing 'SAGE & THYME' is in capitals and with an ampersand ('&') as that's how the UK trade mark is registered.

The managerial and administrative work which underpins effective
training is substantial. The SAGE & THYME office has recently
purchased AccessPlanIt's training management system, with the aim of
automating routine tasks (such as e-mailing delegates booked on
courses), improving record keeping, and making communication with
all SAGE & THYME facilitators and key contacts easier.
We will be importing our data into the new system over the coming
weeks and will be sending future e-mails to everyone via the system.
We may also be in contact with everyone to ensure that are records
are up-to-date.
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust was successful in gaining 3 CPD
credits for the SAGE & THYME foundation level workshop and the
SAGE & THYME ACP workshop as an 'external event', provided by
UHSM on a number of occasions for Trust staff. The credits were
provided by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the
United Kingdom – see
. The SAGE & THYME office has
received little demand for CPD points to date, but please let us know if
demand for this grows.

The prices for the licence and packs have not increased since they were launched in 2010. We would therefore like to give you advanced warning that the prices for the licence, packs and UHSM foundation level and SATFAC delegate fees, will be increasing from 1 April 2016 –
the details will be provided as soon as they are available and also placed on our web site: http://www.sageandthymetraining.org.uk/prices

‘Listen to people
...cont.
the SAGE & THYME workshop:
! Listen to people and respond to their preferences and concerns' (standard 2)
! 'Make sure that people's physical, social and psychological needs are assessed and responded to' (standard 3).
We anticipate that individual nurses and midwives (and their employers) will want proof of continuous investment in these foundation level skills. SAGE & THYME workshops are taught across the UK by accredited and licensed trainers. Three research papers and multiple case reports are testament to the positive impact of SAGE & THYME workshops. It may be helpful to mention how the SAGE & THYME foundation level training can help nurses and midwives to meet the Code's standards, when advertising the workshop.
Patient stories on web site
Those of you who attended the 'patient stories' session at last year's conference will know that we filmed clinicians talking about their experiences of using SAGE & THYME when speaking to patients. Our thanks go to the following people for giving their consent to having the films available on our web site: Helen Bennett, Nigel Wainwright, Helen Bradley, Jennifer Hedingham, Victoria Peplow and Felicity Goodey. To view the films visit:
(note that they can take about 10 seconds to play – we are working on making this quicker). The web site also includes the update given by Mike Connolly at the conference:

Further details will be provided to facilitators when the films are available.

Established and licensed trainers of SAGE & THYME took a day in May to refresh their training skills and share their experiences of teaching SAGE & THYME. “I wasn't really sure I needed to refresh the way I facilitate SAGE & THYME workshops...”, said one of the nine trainers at Reflect and Refresh, “...but I'm very glad I have. I've learned so much from others trainers and I have new energy for it.”
We plan to run R&R next in Manchester and could travel elsewhere. Please let us know if you have staff who would like to attend:
