Fabulous First Grade So much is happening in first grade. The

children are all busy learning classroom procedures and routines and all classes have started sending home weekly homework. If you have questions about classroom or homework procedures, please contact your child’s teacher.

We are jumping right into learning! In math we are learning about different kinds of patterns and shapes. Children will need to know defining attributes of shapes such as number of sides and vertices. When you are with your children, ask them to point out shapes they see.

In reading, we are working on saying all the sounds in a word. This is part of phonemic awareness or the ability to manipulate sounds in words. This important skill is the foundation of learning to read. You can support your child in this area by playing words games as you drive in the car. Say a word such as cat and ask your child to say all the sounds in the word (/c/ /a/ /t/) or say a word and ask your child to think of words that rhyme with it.

We are all looking forward to a fabulous year filled with fun and learning in first grade!

Second Grade Sound-off

The second grade teachers would like to welcome all of the students and families back to school! We enjoyed meeting all of you at Meet and Greet and Parent Night. This month we are teaching classroom and school procedures and expectations. Please continue to review these with your child at home to ensure a successful transition back to school. In addition, we will be covering place value to 1000, story elements, proper nouns and pronouns, as well as practicing handwriting and writing in complete sentences. If at any time you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's teacher.

We look forward to partnering with you this year.

Kinder ‘Korner’

WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN! This month, your children are working hard to learn rules, expectations, and procedures so they will be ready to learn each day! We are also building our classroom communities and getting to know one another through play. In literacy, we will learn letter names and sounds for the following letters: M, S, A, T, R, as well as a song for each letter! :) We will make lists of words that begin with each letter and go on "letter hunts" in our classrooms. In math, we will explore the numbers 1-5 and match numbers to the correct amount of objects. The Kindergarten team hopes to see you all at our Parent Info Night on Tuesday, August 16th from 5:30-6:00pm.

Third Grade Thoughts

It has been a great

couple of weeks, we are

getting into full swing!

Students are all aware of

our rules and procedures

and are working hard to

follow them. Thank you

so much for sending in

the necessary supplies. Please be sure

to communicate with your child daily

about school. They should be

practicing their spelling words daily as

well as math facts. Students will have

spelling test, reading comprehension

tests, and math formatives on Fridays.

We look forward to a wonderful year of

learning and getting to

know your child!

Fourth Grade Facts

4th graders are off to a

great start! The first week of

school, we spent time getting

to meet new friends and

practicing classroom

procedures. Math this month,

will focus on place value and

problems solving. For

reading, we will be analyzing

character traits, setting,

evidence and themes in

stories. Make sure to ask your

4th grader what they have

learned about our Arizona!

Practicing math facts and

reading at home are crucial

for 4th grade.

Thank you for all the

supplies this school year!

We can't thank you

enough for your support.

Fifth Grade Feedback

Hello 5th Grade Families! We have made it through the start of a new school year! As we continue to enforce routines

and procedures, transition to academic standards, and settle in to a daily schedule, it is a pleasure getting to know your children! If you haven't created an account to monitor your

child's grades, please do so right away! We look forward to the year ahead

and appreciate your support!

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I am very excited to begin another year! For those students who are enrolled in Spanish classes this year, here is an explanation of each level. At the 6th grade level, students will be exposed to traditions and culture found in Spanish speaking countries around the globe. They will learn some vocabulary that is unique to these areas. At the 7th grade level, students will learn basic, functional vocabulary that will provide them with solid foundation for 8th grade Spanish, if they choose to take it. We learn the alphabet, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, and other vocabulary that is used on a daily basis. The 8th grade Spanish class at Anza Trail is designed to mirror Walden Grove’s Spanish I class. Students who are currently enrolled in this class will receive high school credit if they maintain an A or a B in the class all semester. Students were selected for this class based on their behavior and performance in 7th grade Spanish. If for any reason you need to contact me, please note that I can be reached at [email protected]. Students are also welcome to use my website at www.mrsdelaossa.weebly.com for assignments and notes. ¡Hasta pronto!
