Volume 19 THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME November 17, 2019
With the Thanksgiving season right on the horizon, let us be thankful for the many bright
minds and faithful parishioners that we will have the privilege to meet through the establishment of Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Parish. This Archdiocesan initiative will allow for the continued success and future growth of our unified Catholic community in Westchester.
We have all been trusted with the responsibility to cultivate, sustain, and grow our parish
community in a way that welcomes all who wish to join us. Involvement in the life of a parish is an integral part of our faith life. It is through our participation in this way that we become true followers of Christ and achieve a religious community that is alive and vibrant.
In addition to two vibrant Churches, our parish provides an exceptional Catholic education
through the Divine Providence School and Religious Education Program, which educates over 400 youth of Westchester and several surrounding suburbs. In choosing to send both of our own children to Catholic grade schools, Catholic high school, and a Jesuit University, my husband and I can personally testify to the extraordinary benefits they have received. They have been provided a quality education in a safe Christian environment where they have grown to be virtuous young Christian adults. This is an exciting season of growth and new opportunities for our Parish. As the Director of Marketing and Enrollment, I strive for a unified community of believers in Westchester where each individual adds to the beauty of this place. I ask you to consider sharing your gift of faith in a volunteer position or ministry.
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.’” (Isaiah 6:8)
If you would like to be further immersed in our Parish, see page 8 for a list of opportunities. Together we are one Catholic community in Christ! Linda Hawkins Director of Marketing and Enrollment Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Parish Divine Infant Jesus Church Divine Providence Church and School

The oil used in administering the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is called Oil of the Sick. It is one of the three Holy oils blessed by the bishop of the diocese at his cathedral on Holy Thursday morning, the other two Holy Oils being Holy Chrism and the Oil of Catechumens, which is used in Baptism. Oil of the Sick is pure olive oil—nothing being added except the blessing of the bishop. Its appropriateness as part of the outward sign of Anointing of the Sick is evident from the healing and strengthening effects which are characteristic of olive oil. The essence of the sacrament lies in the actual anointing and the short prayer which accompanies the anointing. In giving the sacrament, the priest anoints the sick person on the forehead and hands. During this anointing, the priest says: “Through this holy anointing may the Lord in his love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit. May the Lord who frees you from sin save you and raise you up.”
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church,
and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

Please bring a monetary donation and or non-perishable food items to church Thanksgiving morning. Please DO NOT leave food in the normal containers in the vestibule, but keep it with you in the pew. After the regular Offertory Collection, we will all be invited to bring our gifts of food to the Altar. This beautiful procession will strongly symbolize our willingness to share our gifts with one another, and that the hungry and less fortunate hold an important place in our hearts.

LIFE IS HARD, BUT HAVE NO FEAR
Today’s readings take a fearless look at reality and reach a conclusion that we all know: life is hard. The prophet Malachi preaches fire and brimstone, warning us that evildoers will perish in flames. Saint Paul offers his own warning to the Thessalonians: keep busy, but never become a busybody. He reminds Christians that the apostles themselves worked in “toil and drudgery” as a model for how we ought to contribute to our community. The Gospel returns to the apocalyptic tone of Malachi, describing the utter chaos of the end-times. We will know the end is near when violence, catastrophe, and hatred dominate the earth. But we must not fear! God’s saving plan brings peace to our hearts. Malachi speaks of the sun’s “healing rays,” and Jesus himself promises to protect every hair on our heads. Copyright © J. S. Divine Providence School is starting the process to initiate a School Advisory Board. The school is strengthened through the working partnership between the leadership of the school, the parish and its stakeholders. By its nature, the board is advisory and therefore is commissioned to offer suggestions and advice regarding the vitality and continued success of the school. The board is typically a three year commit-ment. Through this process we are looking for a variety of people to serve on the board! This includes school parents, parishioners and community members. If you would like to be considered for the board, please complete an application. Applica-
tions will be reviewed before Thanksgiving, interviews will take place in December and the first meet-ing will take place in January. Applications can be found on the home page at dprov.org or hard copies can be found in both of the churches.

BETHLEHEM ART
Handcrafted Olive Art Straight From The Holy Land
We will host representatives of the Catholic Christian Community from Jerusalem and Bethlehem in the Holy Land who will be displaying handcrafted olive wood religious figurines and articles. Due to the political conflict and the reduction of tourism, the Catholic Community has come to depend more on the sale of these articles abroad to survive. The woodcarvings are beautiful and reflect the faith and love for the Lord.
Please consider purchasing a gift that will be remembered and cherished for yourself or someone dear to you and help our sisters and brothers in Christ keep their Christian identity and presence in the Holy Land. The handcrafted olive religious figurines and articles will be available for purchase after all Masses:
