The main research activities of this working group concern :

• Spatial and temporal evaluation of oak decline

• Assessment of oak decay factors

• Propose some control strategies (agents and forest

management)


The general goals are :

• to promoting and co-ordinating research in European and

North African countries

• to facilitate contacts between European and North African

scientists

• to encourage the application of collective strategies

• General conclusions..…

We need to improve the participation of others European countries(Spain for cork oak; North European countries for other oak species)

We need to consolidate the participation of other countries that already participated

in the group(Iran)

We need to maintain the involvement of students and young scientists from the

North African countries

We need to get more research institutions as IOBC institutional members

(after this meeting the Algerian forest research institutions leaders will discuss about this)

About the meetings

We need to maintain in the next meetings the introduction of each session by a

general presentation

(was very good to present the state of the art and to identify gaps of knowledge)

We need to have more time to the session workshops(Very important because permit people to discuss, to identify gaps and to define strategies to work together)

Difficulties on the global evaluations of the sanitary condition of the forest

Precise the factors associated with oak decline in each country





Precise the factors associated with oak decline in each country

Identify control methods for specific biotic agents and improve forest

management techniques to restore the healthy status of oak stands




Improve bilateral cooperating activities performed between various countries

Plan workshops on priority topics for young scientists

Improve knowledge on oak pathogenic fungi and standardize methodologies

to decline evaluation

Preparation of IOBC guidelines in Oak Forest Integrated Protection

Establish multidisciplinary pilot sites to test the methods of decline

evaluation and integrated protection as well as preventive and preservative

measures
