Peru is the first world exporting exporter of asparagus, dry paprika, fish oil and fishmeal, alpaca and vicuña fibre; and third biggest Latin America Country, first producer of gold, silver, zinc, tin and lead; and a potential exporter of hydrocarbons. Peru is a global leader in the production of more than 30 valuable Super Foods between grains, fruits, vegetables and fish (cocoa, grapes, blueberries, lucuma, quinoa, asparagus, artichoke, camu camu, cherimoya, palta/ avocado, blue corn, aguaymanto, blue fish, maca, sachainchi, mango, mandarin). The cherimoya, guava, guanabana, granadilla and camucamu are delicious fruit that come from Peru. Lucuma (delicious special fruit to prepare ice cream), comes from Peru. The Potato is of Peruvian origin with more than 3,000 different

varieties.

The Maize’s largest most tender kernels in the world are

Peruvian. In Peru there are at least 32 varieties and the purple

one come just from Peru.

The Weeping Willow Tree is Peruvian and contains a component

that is the base for aspirin.

The famous peanut (Cacahuate), as the same the Tara tree

from which they extract tannin an element which is used in

tanning mills and dye houses, are Peruvians.

Yacón, a root vegetable similar to yucca (mandioca) from which

insulin is extracted for industrial production, is Peruvian.

The Cats claw (uncariatomentosa) and Maca (against

cancer)and Huanarpo Macho, principle components of

Viagra, are millennium Peruvian roots.

The finest Cotton in the world is Peruvian.

Peru has the highest railroad in the world (Ticlio 4,815 m.a.s.l.

The Anticona Pass is at 15,800 ft. above sea level).

Peru has the deepest canyons in the world; Cothuasi, 3,600

m.a.s.l. (11,811 ft. above sea level), and the Colca, 3,400

m.a.s.l. (11,155 f.a.s.l.) are in Peru.

The University of San Marcos (Est. 1551) and “El Peruano”

are the oldest university and newspaper in the Americas.

The Cantuta is the national flower of the Incas.

In Peru there are 1,769 glaciers. Peru has 262 hydrographical

basins. Peru’s territory has 12,000 lakes of different sizes and

depths. 3,986 belong to the Pacific outlet. 7,441 pertain to the

Atlantic outlet. 841 in the Lake Titicaca area.

With over 1,800 different varieties of birds, Peru is the country

with the largest variety of birds in the world.

The Rock Hen is the national bird.

Peru is the second country in the world in variety of primates with

34 species. Peru is third in mammals with 361 species. Peru is the

fifth in reptiles with 297 species. Peru is the fifth also in

amphibians, with 251 species. Peru has 84 of the 103 ecological

zones that exist in the world.

In just one tree in “Madre de Dios”, the shihuahuaco (Asterix),

scientists, specifically entomologists, found 5,000 species

of insects, 80% of which were new to science.

The first genetic catalogue of Peruvian flora contains more than

3,000 varieties of which 524 have been classified as edible; 401

as wood producing; 334 as toxic for the production of

insecticides; 213 for medicinal purposes; 110 for the

preparation of colorants and dyes; 100 for the production of

tools; 90 for ornamental purposes; 36 for the preparation of oils

and waxes; and 35 for the preparation of beverages.

We can find in the Oriental Andes region of Peru more than

3,000 varieties of different orchids of which 2,000 have been

classified to date.

Four of the ten cereals that exist in the world are native to Peru.

The quinoa, maize, cañihua, and kiwicha. The latter has been

considered by NASA as an important element in the diet of the

astronauts.

Peru has the secong largest Latin Americagas reserve and is the

second in copper production in the world (Peru has “Antamina”

is the largest polimetalic mine in the world) and fifth in gold

worldwide production.

In Peru exists the highest navigable lake in the world, LAKE

TITICACA, which is shared by Bolivia.

Twenty eight different types of climate are found in Peru,

placing it amongst the 5 world countries with the greatest

biological diversity in the world. Within the maritime dominion

held by Peru, the Peruvian Current, better known as the

Humboldt Current, contains the richest production of plankton

and phytoplankton in the world.

Along Peru’s coast live 20 of the 67 species of lesser

cetaceans, or whale related species. The Peruvian ocean offers

700 different varieties of fish and 400 varieties of shellfish.

The Amazon River has thousands tributaries and it is thelargest

basin in the world as the largest in the world has also the largest

flow of water. It has its origin in Peru and is one of the two

healthiest rivers on the planet. It has an average flow of

approximately 150,000m3/second.

Lakes of Mejía in the department of Arequipa are the habitat of

thousands of migratory birds. More than 150 species arrive here

during the year. A bit more than 50% are permanent residents.

The rest are regular visitors that migrate from the four

Cardinal points of the globe.

The ChicamaBeach in Malabrigo Port is one of the most

The Peruvian’s Peace feelings and its active peaceful worldwide

promotion has been recognized. Peru is the capital of the United

Nations Disarmament Office to Latin American and Caribbean

Region.

Ceviche (the very famous and delicious dish fish and shellfish)

comes from Peru; whose richest sea enjoys an abundant biomass of

high variety of blue fish and seafood.

Peru has the largest variety of dishes of the world served on a table:

468 (the Guinness Book of Records). It is the headquarters of the

Mistura Fair, leader of Latin America in gastronomy.

Native ingredients such as maize, potato, chili and the tomato,

among so many others, together with flavors, amazing foods and

secrets, with history and tradition, from the pre-Inca and Inca

period, they were able to amalgamate Spanish, Arab, African,

Chinese, European and Japanese contributions that have been able,

on the basis of the creativity and wisdom of his cheffs, a very

unique product in the world: THE CUISINE OF PERU.

Health in honor to the Peruvian exclusivity of Pisco that dates from

year 1.600. A word that in quechua means Bird, was adapted to the

pitchers that did honor to the potters who lived in the south area of

Peru.

The story is not invented is not changed, is not transformed or

wimsically patented. Pisco is written with "P" of potato and with

“P” of Peru. Because from that precedence, true and antiquity,

irrefutably Peruvian, Peru has the right and legitimacy to have the

Pisco as its National Drink:Piscocity town; Pisco province; Pisco

port; and Pisco river and Pisco valley.

Cheers with a pure, aromatic, acholado or mostoverde; Cheers with

a legitimate Peruvian PiscoSour, with a “chilcano”, with a

“captain” or with a “Peru libre”; but always and JUST with

PISCO from Peru.

The “Suspiro a la limeña”, among other more than 250 varieties

of desserts, is Peruvian.

The organic coffee and cocoa of Peru, have been distinguished as

the best in the world.

Peru is the headquarters of the Nasca Lines, geoglyphs famous all

This is a publication that began to be created from 1997, in Vancouver, Canada, originally titled

"Peruvian Heritage & Achievement”,

“The Peruvian heritage and their achievements to the world", as an initiative of the then Consul General of Peru

in the Canadian West.

In the year 2000, was incorporated as part of the first web page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, within the icon

of the Promotions of Investment of the Executive Directorate of Economic Promotion, under the leadership of the author of

the above-mentioned listing of Peruvian richeness.

Between 2002 and 2003, under the title "Peru Peruvian Heritage and Achievements, half a hundred reasons to be proud to

LovePeru", this publication was published in brochures printed in full color for the Peruvian Embassy of Peru in

South Africa, then having the same author as a Chief Of Mission.

Since the end of 2006 and February of 2011, was assumed as a permanent part of the economic promotion of tourism and

culture of Peru on the website of the Consulate General of Peru in Rome, Italy, then having the same author as a Chief of

Consular Mission.

On April the 5th 2011(and still towards 2012), in occasion of the presentation of credentials, who was the first Ambassador

of Peru in Kuwait; the same author, to His Highness the Emir of Kuwait, this wonderful legacy of Peru to the world, was

introduced and published in Kuwait, as its fifth edition to promote the strengthening of bilateral relations between

Peru and Kuwait and to open trade and attract investment to Peru.

Other attempts, under titles such as "The many reasons to be proud to be Peruvian"; or, among others, "The more than

100 or 104, etc, etc, reasons to be proud to be Peruvian”, wereedited and tried to be register different authorship

on this or similar publication, the same that, under the understanding of its legitimate author, the Ambassador of the

Diplomatic Service of the Republic of Peru, Amador Velasquez Garcia Monterroso, it is a document that must be th

e property of Peru as a Country and of all the Peruvian people.

This 6th/Rev 2 edition, English version, is now inserted in the website of the Embassy of Peru in Guatemala; and has been
