As part of the Emotional Literacy topic, students develop their
vocabulary to identify and describe their emotions. They identify
types of events that are associated with positive/negative or
comfortable/uncomfortable emotions. Role play and emotion cards are
often used when exploring this topic. You can also use this
vocabulary at home.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Parent Teacher Interviews I would like to take the opportunity
to thank the teachers and parents for their participation in the
recent interviews. These meetings are very important in terms of
setting up relationships and also providing some really clear
direction as to individual student goals. I would also like to
reiterate that if parents would like to discuss any matter relating
to their child’s learning or well - being then please contact the
school. Setting up conversations early and directly usually
produces the best results.
From the classrooms This week I would like to feature some of
the writing of the students in Grade 3/4 L who have been working on
story starters.
On an extremely gloomy day things felt magical in the land of
dreams. A bear was eating toffee against a tree. Something jumped
down, but what was it? (Sky)
On a freezing, pouring miserable winter’s day there was snow on
the ground, not a foot print to be seen. (Toby)
On a fantastically humid day, sweat rolled down my forehead and
dropped on the gravel. It sizzled in the sun. (Lilly)
One perfect 'never ending day’, I sat on the window sill looking
out at the mist. I saw a shadow getting closer and closer.

Also included in the pieces of writing from across the grade
were these fantastic words. Stumble, creeping, suspending, swayed,
gusts, hissing, babbling.
One of the main features of developing students writing is to
build on their vocabulary both spoken and written. As young readers
and writers start to build their skill they begin to understand
that the same idea can be expressed in a lot of different ways.
Once early learners understand synonyms and paraphrasing they are
well on their way to really enhancing their Literacy.
Kitchen Garden News On Wednesday we were paid a visit by the
Lakehouse Restaurant and Dairy Flat Farm. The purpose of the visit
was to have a look at the great program that we run at DPS and to
present us with a cheque for $2000 which will go towards the
Kitchen Garden program. We really appreciate the support as it
allows us to run the program in a way that doesn't mean we have to
compromise the quality of the work. Every time I stick my head in
the door at KG it always serves as a reminder of how great it is to
see kids, parents, teachers and community working alongside each
other.
School Council Following the nomination process we have
finalized the majority of our School Council The results are as
follows DET Reps: Brett Millott, Karen McHugh, Matthew Spaccatore,
Lilly Fry McBean Parent Reps; Russell Newton, Karri Flood, Natalie
Fagan, Vanesa Hernandez Rodriguez, Bridie De Vecchi, Michelle
Rushworth, Michael Watson, Annette Fellows, Jodie Zillig Our
Community Member is nominated at the March meeting of School
Council which will be held on March 24th. Daylesford also has a
parent representative spot that can be filled by casual
vacancy.
Coronavirus Update The Department of Education updated their
advice on the Coronavirus on March 2nd and here is the link to the
relevant website. Whenever there is a change to the advice we will
resend this information through via skoolbag and the newsletter.

Cultural Diversity Week is about acknowledging, embracing and
celebrating our
own and each other’s cultural heritage, and is
therefore an ideal time to run some cultural
activities that help children deepen their
understanding of different cultures including their
own.
CULTURAL DIVERSITY DAY 2020
TUESDAY 24th MARCH
Curiosity. Conversation. Community. Today, almost half of
Victorians were either born
overseas or have at least one parent who was born
overseas. We come from 200 countries, speak over
260 languages and follow more than 130 different
faiths. This is our multicultural story.
It is part of who we are.
Cultural Day is one way to explore multiculturalism, what it
means and how it strengthens our community. This year’s Cultural
Day will be on 24th March. To spark student curiosity and
conversation, the focus will be storytelling and the students will
experience 3 activities run by classroom teachers, including folk
dance in the gym. We will begin with assembly which will include an
indigenous flag raising ceremony.
Dress code for the day is regular school uniform.
Parents/carers, please see your classroom teacher if you
are free and would like to support them on this day.

Circuit: The parade starts at 10.30am and
includes 2 laps of the main shopping precinct on
Vincent Street and will conclude at 11.30am

Daylesford College News
Open Night Our Open Night is on Tuesday 10th March
(6pm - 7:30pm). It is aimed at parents / carers of students in
Grade 4 to 6 who are deciding on what high school to send them to.
If you
know of any future families interested in finding out more about
the school then please
pass this onto them.
There will be tours of the school (starting at 6pm), followed by
a presentation and a Q&A session. We are confident that anyone
that
visits Daylesford College will chose us as their high school of
choice!

Fundraising News
On March the 20th we are holding a major Fundraiser and FUN
event for all of the kids. It is free for the kids to participate
and with your help - they will be rewarded with a choice of some
really cool prizes. Prizes start at just $10 raised. By now your
child/ren will have brought home their parent letter and sponsor
form, or you can collect from the office.
Well done to everyone who has already registered.
We have 65 children who have online profiles and have already
raised nearly $4000 for our School. We are going to be able to make
some Fantastic Upgrades to the school facilities with it for the

Every child registered will go in the draw to win a prize. It
will be drawn at Assembly next week. Please Note: No personal
information of yours or your child’s is shared publicly by the
School Fun Run Organization (not even a last name) and you choose

their online link so we can order their prizes, you can create the
link without sharing.

PARENTS, DO YOU HAVE A VALID MEANS-TESTED CONCESSION CARD?
Then you may be eligible to apply for the CSEF (CAMPS, SPORTS
& EXCURSION FUND)
Eligibility will be subject to the parent/carer’s concession
card being successfully validated with Centrelink on the first day
of either term one (29th Jan 2020) or term two (14th April 2020).
The annual CSEF amount per primary student will be $125,
which will be paid to the school to use towards expenses
relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the
benefit of your child.

The CSEF Program closes on 26th June, 2020

DAYLESFORD FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB
The Daylesford Football Netball Club welcomes new and existing
players along to the start of their 2020 season.
Team Who When Under 12's (aged 8-12) Football Boys and girls
training starts on Thurs 5th March, 5pm-6pm at Victoria Park Oval.

to training on Thursday afternoons. All welcome.
