NOTETAKING IS:
• Actively Listening/reading
• Writing key words and concepts
• Using abbreviations
• Making it helpful to study
• As useful as you make it
NOTETAKING IS NOT:
• Writing every word on the screen
• A replacement for reading the textbook
• Something you never look at again
• Writing only what is on the slide
• Something that happens while you are texting at the same time
• Pointless
• Something you do once
NOTES HAVE TO BE HELPFUL FOR YOU!

TIME!!!

MS. SMITH’S LECTURE NOTETAKING EXPERIENCES
• We didn’t have powerpoint or any kind of electronic transmission of notes when I was in HS or College
• We were taught to do outline notes
• When I got to college, I figured out that I needed to spend more time with my notes. So on the same day as the lecture, I rewrote the notes – neater and could rearrange them in a way that makes sense. This gave me the opportunity to review my notes within 24. Because I was rewriting them, I could try different note taking styles until I found one that worked for me consistently.
