The title of reader in morbid anatomy has been conferred on Dr. Bryan Corrin in respect of his post at St. Thomas’s hospital Medical School. The title of reader in general practice has been conferred on Dr. D. C. Morrell in respect of his post at St. Thomas’s Hospital Medical School. University of Sheffield Dr. Eric Wilkes has been appointed to the newly estab- lished chair of community care and general practice. Dr. Wilkes received his medical education at the University ’of Cambridge and St. Thomas’s Hospital, London, graduating M.B. in 1952; he became M.R.C.P. in 1954. He has been the principal in a partnership practice since 1955 and since 1967 has been an honorary teacher in general practice at Sheffield Uni- versity. He is also a part-time lecturer in social medicine in The department of sociology, University of Keele. He is medical director of St. Luke’s Nursing Home, Sheffield, and a member of the British Cancer Council Sub-committee on Patient Care. Gorman, honorary director of ’the University Surgical Unit at the Northern General Hospital and honorary clinical lecturer in surgery. Neurochemical Pharmacology Unit The Medical Research Council has established a Neuro- chemical Pharmacology Unit in the department of pharma- cology, University of Cambridge, under the direction of Dr. L. L. Iversen. The unit will be concerned with the neurobiological approach to psychiatry, and research will concentrate initially on the study of neurotransmission in the vertebrate nervous system and the actions of psycho- tropic drugs on this process. A lecture on the role of the platelet in haemostasis and throm- bosis is to be given by Prof. B. Firkin (Melbourne) on Wednesday, March 29, at 5.15 P.M., at the Royal Free Hospital, Gray’s Inn Road, London W.C.l. A lecture in the section of general practice of the Manchester Medical Society is to be given by Dr. Harold Fox on Monday March 27, at 8.30 P.M. His subject is the amniotic fluid.
