Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, London. Hewas appointed director of virus research at Glaxo Laboratoriesin 1956. Since 1960 he has been consultant microbiologist at theHospital for Sick Children; he is also lecturer in virus diseasesat the Institute of Dermatology.The title of professor of anatomy has been conferred on
Dr. P. L. Williams in respect of his post at Guy’s Hospital- Medical School.
Dr. Williams, who is 45, received his medical education at theUniversity of Cambridge and Guy’s Hospital Medical School,London, graduating M.B. in 1950. He held house-appointments’at Guy’s and spent a period in the R.A.M.C. before returning toGuy’s as a junior research fellow. In 1954 he was appointedjunior lecturer, in 1956 lecturer, in 1960 senior lecturer, and in1964 reader in experimental neuroanatomy at Guy’s HospitalMedical School.
The title of reader in morbid anatomy has been conferredon Dr. Bryan Corrin in respect of his post at St. Thomas’shospital Medical School. The title of reader in generalpractice has been conferred on Dr. D. C. Morrell in respectof his post at St. Thomas’s Hospital Medical School.
University of SheffieldDr. Eric Wilkes has been appointed to the newly estab-
lished chair of community care and general practice.Dr. Wilkes received his medical education at the University
’of Cambridge and St. Thomas’s Hospital, London, graduatingM.B. in 1952; he became M.R.C.P. in 1954. He has been the
principal in a partnership practice since 1955 and since 1967 hasbeen an honorary teacher in general practice at Sheffield Uni-versity. He is also a part-time lecturer in social medicine inThe department of sociology, University of Keele. He is medicaldirector of St. Luke’s Nursing Home, Sheffield, and a memberof the British Cancer Council Sub-committee on Patient Care.
The title of professor associate in surgery has beenconferred on Mr. F. J. P. Gorman, honorary director of’the University Surgical Unit at the Northern General
Hospital and honorary clinical lecturer in surgery.

M.R.C. Neurochemical Pharmacology UnitThe Medical Research Council has established a Neuro-
chemical Pharmacology Unit in the department of pharma-cology, University of Cambridge, under the direction ofDr. L. L. Iversen. The unit will be concerned with theneurobiological approach to psychiatry, and research willconcentrate initially on the study of neurotransmission inthe vertebrate nervous system and the actions of psycho-tropic drugs on this process.
A lecture on the role of the platelet in haemostasis and throm-bosis is to be given by Prof. B. Firkin (Melbourne) on Wednesday,March 29, at 5.15 P.M., at the Royal Free Hospital, Gray’s InnRoad, London W.C.l.A lecture in the section of general practice of the Manchester
Medical Society is to be given by Dr. Harold Fox on MondayMarch 27, at 8.30 P.M. His subject is the amniotic fluid.
