Driving to school is a privilege for our student drivers. If your student wants to drive to school and park in the south student parking lot, they will need to follow the steps below and abide by our school guidelines. Vehicles must be registered. The registration cost is $25 and requires that a registration form be filled out completely (both sides) and signed by a parent/guardian. Registration forms can be obtained during orientation/schedule pick up times or in the high school office beginning the first day of school. On Tuesday, September 5, students may bring their registration form and fee to the payment window to receive a parking sticker. Students must have stickers displayed in the back window of their vehicles by Monday, September 18 or fines will be issued. Students are not permitted to park in front of the building, the reserved faculty spots in the south lot or in the faculty parking lot on the north side at any time during the school day. Parking without a sticker, inappropriate driving, using someone else’s parking sticker or failing to abide by the parking regulations will result in a fine, may be cause for the loss of the parking privilege, and/or possible referral to the authorities. The only street parking (not posted for two-hour parking) is on the east side of 16th Street from Grove to Pepper Avenues. We encourage our students to use the student parking lot. Under no circumstances is parking on the street accepted as an excuse for tardiness. - Your bus number, stop and pick up time can be found online in your Skyward Family Account. You will find a tab in the left panel named “Student Info” - click on that, and you will see “View Bus Schedule” near the middle of the page. NOTE that the system will have all transportation related changes updated by August 11, so it is best to check it after that date. Questions about your student's bus routing pick-up or drop-off specifics should be directed to Safe Way Bus at 715- 423-1117. If you are a new student you should receive information by U.S. Mail concerning bus details. You have probably seen this logo on t

-shirts, sports bags, posters, magnets and

around the school. PRIDE (Personal

Responsibility In Developing Excellence) is

part of our Character Education commitment.

All students are taught school-wide

expectations and receive regular and frequent

opportunities to practice them as well as be

acknowledged when they use them. Our goal is to create and maintain

a safe and effective learning environment ensuring that all students

graduating from LHS possess the social and emotional skills

necessary for a successful future. You can view the PRIDE chart or

poster at http://goo.gl/aEjN6y. Please work with us on the home front

by encouraging these expectations. Reference the chart when you see

your child using positive behaviors and let them know you appreciate

their efforts and actions. On the flip side, when you see negative

behaviors or attitudes, talk to them about the expectations and ways

to make improvements.

Just a reminder about our student book and materials fee: Students must pay this fee if they plan to participate in any school district sponsored club, organization or sport, be eligible for the PRIDE/privilege program or participate in the senior graduation ceremony. If you have questions about your ability to pay this fee, please feel free to contact LHS administration. Fees can be paid at orientation, in the main office or online in Skyward Family Access.

There will be no increase in meal prices next school year. This year USDA allowed school nutrition programs in good financial status to request an exemption to the required

yearly meal price increase. DPI recently approved our request. Prices will continue as follows:

Breakfast (all grades): $1.25; Free and reduced students receive breakfast at no charge. Universal free breakfast will continue at Mead, Grove, and RCHS.

Elementary Lunch: $1.95 WRAMS Lunch: $2.15 EJH / LHS / RCHS / Wood Co. Alt. School Lunch:

$2.35 Reduced lunch (all grade levels): 40 cents Extra entrée (LHS and EJH only): $2.00 Extra milk or 4 oz. juice: 35 cents Semester Milk: $28.00 / semester Early Childhood Milk: $6.00 / semester Adult Breakfast $1.85, Adult Lunch $3.10

LHS students scan their student ID at the cashier station when making food purchases. The system works like a checking account. Money is deducted from the account with each transaction. Student accounts at LHS must be above a zero balance (be in the “black”) at all times. “Charging” meals is not allowed. Cash payments will be required when there is no money in the account. Parents may

view student meal purchases and deposits or make online credit card meal deposits by setting up an account in www.mymealtime.com. Credit card meal deposits update in a student’s account at the school every 15 minutes and updated balances can be viewed online in approximately four hours.

“Borrowing,” entering another student’s ID number, or buying lunches for another student is not allowed. This ensures that we have correct meal reporting for each student. In addition, we have had a few situations where parents were upset because students were buying lunch for friends. If you have questions concerning this program, please contact the main office at 715-424-6750.

Deposits can be made by sending a check to LHS Food Services, 1801 16th Street South, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494. Students can make deposits to their account with the lunch line cashier anytime from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., or by dropping it at the payment window outside the office anytime during the school day. Deposits made prior to 10:30 a.m. will be entered into student’s lunch accounts prior to lunch.

Any parent, guardian or staff member with an established profile on MealTime Online: www.mymealtime.com may opt to receive an email notification – automatically – whenever their account, or their student’s account, reaches a pre-determined “low balance” level set by the account holder.

hunger pains can be satisfied as the “Rapid River Café” will be open after school from 2:20-3:05 p.m. for snacks and beverages.

Parents may continue to call in their child’s absences to the Attendance Line at 715-424-6765 or they may report the absences through Family Access. Whichever way is easiest for your family! Simple directions to use this procedure on Family Access can be found at: http://goo.gl/km223q.

are required to have a student planner. The LHS student planner is a valuable tool when used wisely. It contains important information about our guidelines, rules and expectations, including our dress code. It also encourages goal setting, academic planning and offers valuable tips on how to be successful in school. We know our student planners will be a valuable asset in helping each student achieve success. Students receive their planners upon receipt of the $45 student book and materials fee. As a parent, take a few minutes to read the LHS student planner. It gives you a great look at how to stay on the “right path” at LHS.

are permitted during instructional time, at teacher discretion. Cell phones are allowed during school hours in the cafeteria during lunch, in hallways between classes, and in Study Hall. If a student is found using a cell phone during unauthorized times, the cell phone will be confiscated. Repeated violation or refusal to comply with these expectations will result in disciplinary actions including up to an out-of-school suspension.

are not to be worn by students during the school day. We have had this expectation for years and it has been a good thing. Safety issues are less of a factor because backpacks are not on the floor during class or in the hall during class change. There are also fewer issues with theft. Students may use backpacks to bring materials to and from school.

during the school day should be for emergency purposes only. The normal school day activities prevent us from delivering messages, items or gifts during the school day. Please communicate with your students before they leave for school for the day.

ALL WRPS families will need to verify information about their student(s) through this process. Simply go to your “Family Access” account after August 1 (where you check on your students’ grades, attendance, etc.) to take care of this. Please complete this process by the first day of school, September 5.

LHS is a tobacco-free environment for every-one! This includes cigarettes, e-cigarettes/vapor pens, and all forms of chewing tobacco. Please tell your student not to smoke. If your student does smoke or chew, encourage them to quit. If a student chooses to use or possess tobacco products on school grounds, consequences will be used to help them comply with school regulations. STATE LAW PROHIBITS THE PURCHASE OR POSSESSION of tobacco products by anyone under 18 years old.

Parents had an opportunity to complete a "Directory Data Release" form when their student(s) were sophomores, or when they first became a

student at LHS. This release allows the school district to use student names, photographs, videos, degrees and awards, etc. in school publications such as the yearbook, athletic rosters and programs, drama/musical production programs and on WRPS webpage/social media accounts. Local school districts receiving federal assistance are required to provide certain directory data (students’ names, telephone listings, and addresses) when requested by military recruiters or institutions of higher education (colleges/universities/technical colleges). If you did not return a form to restrict access within 14 days of receiving the form, directory data is used and/or released in accordance with state and federal statutes. You can change your directory data release options at any time by requesting and completing a new "Directory Data Release" form through the school office. Questions may be directed to Mrs. Russo in Student Services at 715-424-6750. ext. 4010.
