Stacey StuCo Makes It 22 in 2012!

The Stacey High School Student Council‟s year began in July 2011 at

UTSA with the creation of the theme “22 in „12” and on February 25, 2012,

they were notified that they would be awarded the following top honors

from the Texas Association of Student Councils:

Outstanding Energy and Environment Program – Jennifer Zimmerman,

Committee Chairperson

Outstanding Pride and Patriotism Program – Mysti Jones and Alejandra

Parham, Committee Chairpersons

Outstanding Drug, Alcohol, Safety and Health Program – London Slater, Committee Chairperson

Outstanding Community Service Program – Xavier Sanchez, Committee

Chairperson

Outstanding Student Council Program – Daley Moore, Stacey StuCo

President

This year marks the 22nd

consecutive year that Stacey StuCo has taken top

honors from the state and has been awarded the Sweepstakes Award. Only

10 schools in District 15, which is comprised of over 80 1A to 5A school

districts reaching from the San Antonio area to Laredo and Del Rio,

received the Sweepstakes Award this year. Stacey StuCo is the only council

in District 15 to have won this prestigious honor 22 times in a row. Council

members received recognition in April when they traveled to Arlington for

the TASC State Convention. At this convention, Mr. Poludniak was also

recognized as the District 15 Advisor of the Year. StuCo President Daley

Moore summed up this year by saying, “ We worked hard as a team to

impact the school and community with a variety of programs, and we came

together as a council to successfully achieve our goals this year. The

Sweepstakes Award is proof that we can make a difference.”

Congratulations to the High School Student Council and their Advisors,

Mr. Poludniak and Ms. Medellin-Keller.

Jr. High StuCo

Jr High Student Council

“This is the best year yet... finally we have a club!”

Jr. High Student Council is back. It is a middle school club, and they don't have to stop there. There are many activities that they are dipping their toes in, like recycling, 'word of the day',

share-a- smile week, popcorn lovers day, and PI day.

Mrs. Medellin-Keller decided to sponsor the Jr. High StuCo. What most people don't understand is that she also the sponsor of the Freshman class. So, that is two activities that

she has to juggle. My question is what happens when Mrs. MK has a good idea?

Rachel Swim was elected the first president. After she moved, Olyvia Mayfield became president. If you have a good idea for Jr. High StuCo, then tell her.

Our PTSO is a Power for Learning The media center is just one of many areas that receive the benefit of our

district’s Parent Teacher Organization. Recently, the PTSO provided some comfortable bean-bag chairs that go beautifully with new carpeting in the library. Students are eager to get a chance to sit comfortably and

read some great books – many of which the PTSO provided. Next week we’ll share some series and titles that the PTSO bought specifically for

the library, none of which remain on the shelves very long!

Thank you, PTSO, for your long hours and selfless commitment for our

students. We love our PTSO!

Welcome to our new Library Specialist!

Ms. Gail Robinette has been selected to fill a newly envisioned role in the media center: Library Specialist. In this position, Ms.

Robinette will work with the library faculty to support the district vision and all of the students and faculty in their information and

transliteracy needs. In particular, Ms. Robinette will work with the elementary

students and classes to instruct in information skills and to assist students as they grow in their appreciation for reading and great

literature.

Ms. Robinette meets the highest requirement for the position: students love her library classes! When walking through the

library, visitors see that students are thoroughly engaged in the read-alouds and book selection that she leads. She brings a

supportive attitude and a love for children that shine in her work with the students. We are so happy to have her as part of our

LISD library media center.

The First Grade performance of “It’s a ZOO Out There” was a huge success. There were 73 performers on stage dressed as lions, bears, snakes, and

more! Congratulations First Grade and Miss Coffey on a fantastic performance!
