School News
During Holy Week, we remember the great sacrifice Jesus made for
us. On Palm Sunday, Pope Francis reflected on the crucifixion of
Jesus just days after He was greeted by crowds as He entered Jerusa-
lem. He encouraged young Catholics to speak up and join their voices
together in praise, not to follow the masses calling for crucifixion. We
teach the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and the 7 Habits to our students to
inspire each one to develop the leadership skills necessary to stand up
for what is right. We want them intervene when kindness and com-
passion are needed. Our children witnessed the devotion of St. Lo-
retto this past week, who spreads a message of mission and vocations
to young people. She is a shining example of the devotion to faith
that we hope to inspire in our children. Our goal is for them to con-
tinue following Jesus, to do what is right even when it’s not popular,
and to carry the joy of God in their hearts wherever they go.
Did you know… St. Susanna students take active leadership roles in
our school and community by applying for leadership positions for
which they are interested. One example of this is our Student Ambas-
sador program. These students have an interest in and are trained to
welcome visitors to our building and take them on guided tours.
Imagine how impressed parents are to have a 9-year-old guide them
through the school, explaining our programs! Leadership roles will
be expanded for the 2018-19 school year, with additional roles added
in subsequent years. St. Susanna School can help bring out the
leader in YOUR child, too!
Spartan Spirit Awards: For week of March 19: Jessica Kaur,
Landon Drennan, Peyton Burger, Trenton Cutshall, Kendra Dick,
Jordan Schmitt, Kristina Dick, Aiden Arickx, Kendell Ohaya, James
Andres, Allison Wildeman, Lana Anderson, Lilah Quinn, Kadence
Wyman. Keep letting your lights shine!
Teacher of the Week: For 03/12: Ms. Houser (preschool) – Nominated by Hanna Grubbs
and Luke Roman.
Ms. Houser makes Hanna feel special when she is chosen to be line
leader, and Luke enjoys the centers Ms. Houser sets up in the class-
room. According to Luke’s mother, Kristin, “Luke is very blessed to
have such awesome preschool teachers. He had never been away
from me, and these teachers not only eased his mind, but also
mine. He’s in great hands.”
For 03/18: Heather Miller (5th grade) - Nominated by Owen Gessner
and members of St. Susanna staff.
Mrs. Miller was chosen by St. Susanna staff members to receive the
Plainfield Optimist Partners in Teaching award next month. Mrs.
Miller’s positive attitude and willingness to help others have been
impressive. She has inspired our 5th graders to become positive lead-
ers themselves. Owen nominated Mrs. Miller to be the ICON’s
“Teacher of the Month”, which she won. Her information will be
featured in the ICON in early May. Congratulations to Mrs. Miller
for being an example of servant leadership to us all!
Graduate News: St. Susanna graduates and Plainfield HS Seniors
Anna Ardelean and Kaitlyn Booher (who is also Senior class presi-
dent) worked with Plainfield administration to coordinate “A March
to Remember” at Plainfield High School this past week to honor vic-
tims of violence as well as police officers and firefighters. While
other schools staged a walk-out in protest, they chose to focus on
honoring those who work to protect others and promoting unity
within the community. They truly let their lights shine, and we are
proud of them!
Do you have any good news to share? Anything our students or
graduates have accomplished? Please let me know how students and
graduates are letting their lights shine!
Cyber Safety Presentation: Monday, April 2 @ 6:30 pm. Join us as
Sargent Todd Knowles from Plainfield Police Department shares
insight and information that every parent needs to have in order to
keep their children safe on the Internet. Our children use computers,
smartphones, tablets, and other devices every day. With the right
knowledge, we can help keep our kids safe! Child care will be pro-
vided by our EDM staff for those attending this presentation!
VBS: Ladies &
Gentlemen, Start
Your Engines! Have you ever wanted to be a race car driver? Do you enjoy crafts? Do you enjoy working with children? Then this summer VBS will be a green light for you! We are in need of numerous volunteers to oversee and help coordi-nate the various stations for our exciting summer as we run the Incredible Race for the Lord. VBS is scheduled for the last week in June, but it is not too soon to start
our engines in the planning and preparation laps. Con-sider joining our Pit Crew, led by Whitney Kern and Bridget Schlebecker. I guarantee it will be spectacular! Perhaps, even, “the greatest spectacle in racing!” If in-terested, put your pedal to the metal and contact Bridget Schlebecker at [email protected] or call 317-838-7722.
Women of the Parish,
You’re are all invited and welcome to join us Friday mornings from 9-10a.m. in Parish Center West for
‘Friday Morning Coffee Chat.’ We discuss the upcoming weekend readings and pray together. We have formed a great group of support, and it’s been a wonderful opportunity to focus on the readings and re-flect on them before coming to Mass on Saturday or Sunday. We will meet every Friday through May even though some schools are having breaks. Whoever is free and wanting to ‘chat’ is welcome! Also our next monthly evening meeting (called ‘Girlfriends in God’) is scheduled for Monday, April 23 from 7:30-9:00 p.m. at Iguana’s Mexican Restaurant in Plainfield. Come meet a new friend, see old friends, or bring friends! We also have a new e-mail account for the group—add it to your list: [email protected] Let us know if you have questions!
Birthline–Volunteers Needed
Birthline is a ministry of the Office of Human Life & Dig-nity which provides baby layettes for needy families. Would you like to be a vital partner for Birthline from the convenience of your home? Then the Birthline Helpline group is for you! Simply sharing approximately 3 hours a month would help many families seeking assistance from Birthline. Con-tact Jená Hartman, Birthline Coordinator, at (317) 236-1433 or [email protected] for more information and to set a time for a training session in your own home. SIMPLE, CONVENIENT, REWARDING.

MINISTRY
Over 20 Eucharistic Ministers and Father Glenn make weekly visits to over 40 of our brothers and sisters in their homes or healthcare facilities. These fulfilling visits may be their only connection to Saint Susanna Parish. But can you image the excitement and smiles on their faces if there was a way that these folks could visit their Church again for Mass, maybe just once a month? You could give them a lift in more ways than one by offering to pick them up for Church. As the weather gets warmer, we would like to organize a team to make this happen—but we need your hands and feet
and space in your car.

SIXTH SUNDAY PRAYER
VIGIL, 40 DAYS FOR LIFE/
INDY – MARCH 25, 2018
Coming after a big snowstorm the night before, two of us from St. Susanna braved the elements on Sunday, March 25, to pray during the last Sunday of the Spring 40 Days Vigil at Planned Parenthood from Noon until 1:30 pm. We then drove to St. Luke Catholic Church for the 40 Days Closing ceremony at 2 p.m. Mike Fichter, President of Indiana Right to Life, spoke about the cultural battle against tradi-tional values but he emphasized that pro-life is still seen as the most important issue today, especially with Millennials. Mike believes that is because of God’s grace. In 1973, there were few resources for women with crisis pregnancies. Today in Indiana alone, there are 70 pregnancy resource centers with free services and counsel-ing throughout the state. There are also mobile units that offer these same services through Gabriel Project and Heart Line of Northern Indiana. Planned Parenthood’s customer base is declining in Indi-ana. From 2008 to 2016, 3,642 fewer children have been aborted. Two major abortion facilities closed in Indianapolis and South Bend. There are 35 abortion facilities still operating in Indiana but only four of these even offer ultrasound and then only for a charge. A new bill HEA 1337 titled Dignity for the Unborn is pending in the Statehouse. It is the only one in the country to have, at its base, civil rights pro-tection. SEA 340 tightens the Abortion Facility Licensing Process and Expands the Use of Safe Haven Baby Boxes. It states that abortion cannot be done for the reason of race, disability (like Downs Syndrome), or sex. Abortion providers must report a mother’s injuries that occur because of the abortion and the bill ex-pands the use of baby boxes within the state. Debra Minott, co-leader of 40 Days for Life/Indianapolis, reported that there was one save reported at Planned Parenthood over the Spring campaign. Even though the number was disappointing, we are witnesses to God and the community! Nationwide, 490 babies’ lives have been saved! Praise the Lord!
Next Respect Life and Gabriel Project Meetings are sched-uled for Thursday, April 12, 2018, 6 pm, at the Parish Center East.
Respect Life Ministry Each of us has a mission, each of us is called to change the world, to
work for a culture of life, a culture forged by love and respect for the
dignity of each human person.
