Our April 7 meeting will be our 2nd Annual New England Chapter Emerging Technologies Night.

Ten presenters will briefly describe their technologies during the meeting, and prior to the meeting we will also have the emerging technology exhibits on the mezzanine during the networking hour (5:30 to 6:30). We will have a diverse range of technologies for

presentation and display.

For the purposes of this meeting we have adapted a

Ron Gillooly Chapter President

Greetings – April 2010

Our March meeting featured a new benefit for attendees by offering CEU’s for the first time during our “Controls Integration” program. Providing CEU’s is just one benefit we plan to continue at future meetings where applicable. Thank you Brian Crafts and

Gregg Snyder for organizing this effort!

James M. Sinopoli, PE, RCDD, LEED AP of Smart Buildings LLC and Don Lemenager from Schneider Electric provided us with a glimpse of the latest trends in how control systems will be installed and integrated in the future. Building owners and developers will have the opportunity to work with one contractor for all their needs while saving money in cable pathways, cabling and project management. The future will also require your facilities and IT groups to work closer together. This will be no easy feat and may require an outside consultant with an advanced degree in psychology to facilitate! Let’s just hope they are better at it than our lawmakers in D.C. If you haven’t joined our AEE NE Group on LinkedIN you are missing out valuable networking opportunities and, more importantly, a job board that has become increasingly popular. The group now boasts 140 members

and on any given week you can find from 2-6 active job openings within

our industry. You can join by simply clicking on the link here! http://www.linkedin.com/groups?home=&gid=2280514&trk=anet_ug_hm Our next meeting “Emerging Technologies Night” was one of our more popular programs last year. Dan Wheatley and Gregg Snyder have worked hard over the past several months identifying new technologies that are commercially available, state-of-the-art yet not widely known. As statewide energy efficiency budgets increase many of these products and services are sure to play a role in meeting the efficiency targets promulgated by the Green Communities Act. We hope you can join us on April 7th!

*If you plan on attending please remember to register early so that we

have an accurate count for planning purposes.

2010 Babson Energy & Environmental Conference: Sustainability in Action - March 25, 2010 – Babson College, Wellesley, MA

With the Babson Energy & Environmental Conference only 8 days away, we’re very excited to announce recently added speakers and sessions! New Session: The Ecology of Business: Built to Last or Designed to Die?: This discussion on product stewardship

will introduce attendees to the concept of 'cradle-to-cradle' thinking and how it affects all companies. Representatives from the worlds of design, architecture, manufacturing and recycling will play key roles in an interactive conversation led by Professor Marty Anderson of Babson College.

New Speaker: Richard Goode, Senior Director of Sustainability at Alcatel-Lucent. Rich leads Alcatel-Lucent’s efforts in setting CO2 emissions targets and creating and implementing sustainability programs across all company operations. In addition, Rich integrates sustainability issues into the planning, business processes and decision making functions of the company, challenging established ways of doing things to build lasting business value.

New Speaker: Bob Araujo, Manager of Sustainable Development and EHS Programs for Sikorsky Aircraft

Corporation. A dynamic speaker from a company in an industry you might not think would be intensely focused on sustainability, Bob will share his perspective on the sustainability actions that Sikorsky has taken. He will share how the company has been able to leverage its sustainability strategy as a distinct competitive advantage, with visible results to the bottom line.

• Lunch will be catered by Boloco serving their "inspired burritos." Boloco was the first chain of restaurants in New England to become Certified Green™ by the Green Restaurant Association – most popular of its latest initiatives in sustainability are naturally-raised meats, potato starch utensils, and bamboo bowls. We will be recycling and composting all waste from the lunch.

For speaker biographies and additional agenda details, visit http://babsonenergy.com/eee/index.html and REGISTER TODAY to win an Amazon Kindle pre-loaded with books on sustainability! We look forward to seeing you next Thursday – feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions about the day’s agenda!
