Shelter Box is Rotary Inter-national’s project partner who provides temporary shelter and life-saving essentials survival supplies to displaced families in the aftermath of a disaster.
The boxes may be tailored to a specific disaster, but typically contains a family-sized tent, blankets, water purifier, cook-ing equipment, tools, children’s
activity pack and much more. Items are very intelligently and efficiently packaged, so as to maximize he space inside the 33” x 24” x 22” multi-purpose box, which weighs-in at about 120 lbs.
Shelter Box has provided shel-ter to over 5,000 families across various islands in the Philip-pines since Typhoon Haiyan hit in November 2013

PRESIDENT’S CORNER by: Pres Edgee Don P. Zarsadias
We are diamond! We pre-viously inducted two new Rotar-ians in the persons of Mr. Khen-rik Tan and Mr. Marc Justin Arzadon for true enough, there is strength in numbers. But more important than that is the unity the individual members contrib-ute to the entirety.
Although we are happy to have achieved further growth, the Rotary Club assesses and values the individual member’s sincerity and ability to carry on its core values more than its ac-cumulation number wise. In the
list of the club’s many achieve-ments, included are the club’s membership retention and how active each Rotarian is. Hats off and glasses up to each Rotarian for with the demanding lifestyles we have to live with in our cur-rent times, the call of the club for zealous effort to help and move lives to higher dispositions, we may say, is a load to carry. Be-ing a dedicated Rotarian entails a lot of responsibilities and it is needless to name them but the list is quite long. Load we call the actions we insert in our busy lives for the club’s progress but the rewards are priceless.
With this, the club’s strength and undeterred growth is foreseen. Commendation to each and every Rotarian, for being effective and contagious with their will to move around and move lives.

see to it that the project is success-ful. And because I live and interact with the people here, I get immedi-ate feedback from the ground.
BA: What is the update on the San Fernando International Seaport?
Mr. Nisce: There is an ongoing legal dispute with the Poro Point Industrial Corporation (PPIC). The previous board of PPMC wanted to rescind the obligation. We are working for an amicable settle-ment, which I am confident we will get by mid-year. BA: For the Tourism Complex, Thunderbird Resort remains the main project. What other major projects are in the pipeline? What’s the update on the Masterplan for the 146 remaining areas of PPFZ?
Mr. Nisce: The Masterplan was launched at the Sillag Festival last March. The 50 hectares in the in-dustrial zone which we can develop in the next few years—this can be immediately implemented, because the rest of the property is leased out. The 50 hectares are up for bid-ding. This should be easy; we don’t even have to look for foreign devel-opers, I believe. Of course we wel-come them, but even local groups can easily bid and invest.
BA: How is the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Park coming along?
Mr. Nisce: I’m excited about the ICT Park because there are sev-eral BPOs that want to come in al-ready. Baguio BPOs want to have branches here because 40 percent of their employees are from La Union. That’s because we have tel-ecoms connectivity, specifically the landlines, and because of the level of education here—we have good universities and schools in San Fer-nando.

WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL by: Rtn. Tim Warden
How Bad Becomes Good
The Bible teaches that everyone is bad, and no one but God alone is good. That’s right. Read it for yourself at Romans 3:12 “All have turned away. No one does good, not a single one.” Why is that? Because the first man (Adam) disobeyed God, the poi-son of sin and spiritual corrup-tion spread to the entire human race.
How come there are so many sin-ners in the world? Is it because many people sin? No, we are sinners because of ONE MAN’S SIN. Adam, the first man and source of our natural bloodline, brought sin and its consequenc-es into the world. Today we sin because we are sinners. We are not sinners because we sin.
By the same token, because of ONE MAN’S OBEDIENCE (Je-sus Christ) we are forgiven. When a person accepts Christ by faith, He literally becomes your spiritual bloodline. The result is an irrevocable right standing with God, and all the benefits
that accompany that package. All because of one man’s obedi-ence. Not yours or mine; but JE-SUS..Romans 5:19 “Because one per-son disobeyed God, many be-came sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made right-eous.”
As a sinner, there are times we do some things right. Sure, there were times you helped someone, did good deeds, or said the right thing. But does that change your status as a sinner? No.
Likewise when you receive God’s grace by putting faith in Christ, your heavenly status of right-eousness can never be sinned away.
Romans 5:17 “For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.”

IVES Q. NISCEInterview By: Em P. Guevara
The convivial Mr. Ives Ni-sce is used to donning a lot of hats, but one that he certainly wears with much focus and dedication is his chairmanship of the Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC). PPMC is a government-owned and controlled corporation based in his hometown La Union. PPMC is the operating and implementing arm of the Bases Conversion and Devel-opment Authority (BCDA) to man-age the Poro Point Freeport Zone (PPFZ). Mr. Nisce became PPMC Chairman in 2011, and came armed with competence in banking, fi-nance, economics, management, microfinance and real estate devel-opment. He is at the helm of nine
family-owned businesses as well. He is a graduate of the AIM Man-agement Development Program, and has an Economics degree from Ateneo de Manila University. In this interview, he gives concise up-dates on key PPMC projects.Business Agenda: Describe your role as PPMC Chairman in a nut-shell.
Ives Nisce: Like any other chair-man of any other corporation, you’re supposed to set the vision for the company, and shepherd them to achieving each goal. My advan-tage is I’m from this place. I grew up in San Fernando. I was raised here, I work here, I live here. I feel I have a stake here in the corpora-tion and we have to do well; there’s an added pressure on me that our GOCC prospers and that it walks the straight and narrow path of PNoy. This is what motivates me to
