April twenty-third is a

This celebration came from a catalan tradition, The Festival of

the Rose.

Legend says that Saint George, Patron Saint of Catalonia, killed a dragon about to devour

a beautiful catalan princess

From the dragon's blood

grew a rosebush

The hero plucked the prettiest rose for the princess

Since the Middle Ages the traditional Rose Festival is celebrated in

Barcelona to honor love.

In 1923, this lover's “fiesta” became even more poetic to mark the nearly

simultaneous deaths of Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare, the two giants of literary history, on

April 23, 1616.

 On this day streets are full of books.
