• Theme:– “Inventing the Future: Trends, Perspectives and

Enterprise from the Pacific Rim”

• New Initiative:– APRU Enterprise Business Plan Competition

– Extra Chapter Challenge (ECC)

APRU Doctoral Students Conference (DSC)

• Organised by APRU Doctoral Students Network (DSN)– a self-governed graduate student organisation

• Aims to bring doctoral students in the Pacific Rim together for intellectual and social interactions

• Papers presented address a range of topics grouped under an annual theme

APRU DSC and APRU Enterprise Business Plan Competition - ECC

Extra Chapter Challenge (ECC)

• New initiative spearheaded by APRU Enterprise Coordinating Group (AECG) and APRU DSN

• A business plan competition to encourage doctoral students to create value from their graduate student research

• Open to doctoral students in any discipline at APRU universities

• Top 3 participants will win prize money of about

US$ 20,000

ECC Guidelines

• Must be doctoral students

• Business proposals must relate to dissertation research

• Students submit a 2 - 4 page proposal/letter of recommendation

• Each university to announce its selected ECC participants

• Students submit 25 - 30 page final proposal to ECC Organising Committee

• Competition commences at NUS on 17 July 2006

• Top 3 winners announced on 21 July 2006

Recommended Financial Support for ECC

• About US$ 6,000 per student

• Covers a 4-month stipend, or one term, to work on the project

• Includes a travel award– covers airfare and registration fee to attend the final ECC

competition in Singapore
