In December 2014, Arc Solutions replaced 3,030 meters of water pipeline in 15 streets in Khan Younis, Gaza. 282 households will once again be able to access safe water. All of Gaza’s

1.8 million people were affected by the conflict in some way, including an estimated 1,473 Palestinian civilians casualties. This conflict caused widespread damage to infrastructure,

including electricity plants and water and wastewater systems.

*Project Khan Younis was completed in February 2015

DEAR PARTNERS,

I have a picture in my office of the first project we did in 2013. It was such a challenge to get that first one implemented. At times, I wasn’t sure we would. I like that picture. It reminds me where we started. It reminds me how far we’ve come. It reminds me of the challenges we’ve faced. It reminds me of the lives we’ve changed. 2014 was a good year for Arc Solutions. No, it was a really good year.

Together we directly impacted the lives of 28,620 people. As you look through this report, enjoy it, soak it in. And thank you, thank you for your generosity and commitment to restore the lives of those destroyed by conflict. Let’s keep going. There’s a world out there that needs changing.

Christian Taylor visits with Abdikafe Hilowle, Secretary of the Banadir Region, in March 2014 in Mogadishu, Somalia. Shortly after Abdikafe was targeted and killed by Al Shabab in a car

bombing. Despite the number of attacks Arc Solutions has continued to work in Mogadishu and expanded into the Southern Region of Somalia in November 2014.

YEAR IN REVIEW

The Somali government and African Union troops struggled to contain Al-Shabaab, the Islamist armed group that controls much of southern Somalia.

Throughout 2014, Al-Shabaabtargeted civilians, soldiers and civil servants with car bombs, suicide attacks, and firing squads with attacks also occurring in neighboring Kenya.

Throughout this tension in 2014, Arc Solutions continued to work with schools in Mogadishu to provide clean water and health training. This year Arc Solutions extended it’s work into Southern Somalia, a community very difficult to access. We partnered with Solutions for Humanity, to rehabilitate a well for 2,400 people and empower them with hygiene and sanitation training.

“We had the chance to visit the schools of each project site. Arc Solutions has been quickly learning and adapting

their strategy to best suit the needs of the people. An example of this is the addition of hand washing stations at

the two most recent sites. That was awesome to see.”

YEAR IN REVIEW

In the Central AfricanRepublic, warring factionscontinued to commit atrocities against both Christian and Muslim civilians, killing at least 6,000 people.

Peacekeeping efforts by African Union and United Nations and a ceasefire agreement helped slow the violence, but attacks on civilians are still common with 2.7 million people in dire need of humanitarian assistance. Arc Solutions began working in the CAR in May. We partnered with a local organization called Water for Good to send maintenance teams around the country to keep wells pumping water.

6,154 people engaged in Community Health Trainings to learn how they could care for themselves, their family, and their community.

YEAR IN REVIEW

Escalating hostilities between Israel and Palestine resulted in a 50-day war in July and August 2014. The war was fought primarily through rocket attacks and air strikes between the Gaza Strip and Israel.

Of the 2,205 Palestinians killed, themajority were civilians and the extensivedestruction left 1.3 million people, or 72% of Gaza’s population, in need of basic services.

One of the most basic services is water. Even before the conflict, access to safe water was a huge problem for many people living in Gaza. Arc Solutions teamed with Caritas Jerusalem to repair a pipeline that was destroyed in the war. The pipeline restores water to 1,974 people in Khan Younis.

“Gaza was one of the most devastated places I have

ever been. At the same time, it was incredible to see the resilience and hope carried by the leaders there. It was beautiful to get to be a part of the Arc Solutions team to be able to listen and encourage those leaders.”

Up to 60% of wells in CAR, are broken, failing to provide water for the communities that need it. To address this problem, well maintenance teams were created by our partners,

Water for Good, to travel around the country and visit wells enrolled in the program. Three times per year, the well maintenance team visits each well to monitor it’s operation, perform basic maintenance and repairs, and equip local communities with the tools and knowledge to keep water flowing. This project both ensures sustainable access to water for communities

in CAR and employs Central Africans, providing them with job skills and income.
