CAMP Our Year 3/4 students are currently enjoying an adventure experience at CAMP RUM-BUG. The work and effort that has gone into organising and running such an experience needs recognition and appreciation. We thank all our teachers who have the needs of our students before their own and given up their time with their own families to ensure that the children at our school have a wonderful time. We are expecting the campers to return this Friday afternoon. Parents will be notified through COMPASS.

MASTERPLAN UPDATE The committee is in the process of reviewing all the proposals that were submitted by Landscape Architects. A decision will be made shortly as a recommendation will be made at the next School Council Meeting.

We need your vote! As you may be aware, Pick My Project is a $30 million Victorian-first community grants initiative, with at least $1 million in funding available for each metro and regional area. Armadale Primary School has a wonderful project, ‘Community activity courts weather protection & resurfacing at Armadale Primary School’ which we are honoured and excit-ed to announce has been shortlisted. We need our community to vote by September 17 to realise this new community benefit. This application for $188,000 will include multi court facilities and a generally more useable and fun space for our children and the community to enjoy.

To do this you can click on Pick My Project, register with your email ad-

dress and mobile phone, and then you will be able to select and vote online for your three preferred projects.

Please remember to distribute the 30 flyers given to each family last week. We would love you and your children to letterbox drop these so that we can rouse the support of locals in the school area. An ac-companying note written by your children may also be beneficial. Al-so, can we ask for volunteers over the next week to hand out flyers at train stations / supermarkets. Please contact the office if you can as-sist. This project could be a ground-breaking change for the school and its community, so please help us spread the word! It will help us make a massive difference to our school, our marvellous and supportive lo-cal families, and the community who will have access to our school 365 days of the year. Please get involved in this splendid initiative to benefit the whole community, and share via Facebook, Instagram or email the link with your family, friends and colleagues.

#PickArmadalePrimarySchool Reminder the voting closes at 5pm on 17th September

School Sustainability Festival

This morning a keen group of 12 students from Year 2, 5 and 6, armed with their nude food lunches, met at Toorak Station at 8.15am! They are attending a fantastic festival held at the St Kilda Town Hall. The students are participating in a number of hands-on workshops led by students from local primary and secondary schools. We look forward to hearing all about the day when the students report back on the experience. Thank you Jen (2B) and Jane for accompanying the students to the event.

Recycling our Waste at APS

Our school community is active in reducing our waste to landfill. At our recent Trivia night, parents and carers were encour-aged to take their waste home. We encourage our school community to recycle wherever possible after special events. Our large blue bin skip is emptied fortnightly. Over a year this costs the school approximately $3,000. If we reduce the amount of waste going to our landfill bins and therefore reduce the frequency of this collection, we will save the school a lot of money! We are excited that each class is now using their new colour coded bins to sort their waste. Students and teachers are taking care to put their waste into the correct bins. Ecobins are colour-coded for easy recycling, they are made in Australia from a durable lightweight corrugated plastic, and can be washed. They use 50% less electricity and water and have very little waste during the production process.

The Arts

Our school has a story that we can discover and contribute to through The Arts

Preps: The students are exploring

different materials and fabrics. Describing the texture of fabric, wondering about the purpose of different materials were some of the conversations we explored together in class. Pulling apart hessian was very exciting and provided an insight into how material is made.

Grade 3/4: Why is our school’s logo the Armadillo? Who chose the symbol and when was it introduced? These were some of the important questions asked by the Year 3/4 students. After watching a short video about this amazing creature, the students explored the art elements of shape, line and texture to draw our school logo in their Visual diaries.

Art Fundraising Project Your child’s art work will be able to be viewed in the office from Monday 10 September – Friday 14 September, from 8.45 am to 3.45 and at the OOSCH sign in area before and after school hours. An exciting products can be ordered, including, calendars, cards and pillowcases. Parents can also choose a personal photo as an alternative to their child’s artwork. A flyer will be sent home today (or on Monday for the 3/4 campers) with all the ordering details. Orders can be made via this link: www.crazycamel.com.au/ArmadalePrimary Please note: orders close on FRIDAY 14th SEPTEMBER

Upcoming events: Year 5/6: Clay Workshop (Wednesday:

TRIVIA NIGHT SUCCESS!!!!

Together - with the help of all our families who donated prizes, the

ladies of the Trivia Night committee who pounded the streets and

their keyboards with their ‘begging letters’, our generous local

community who contributed, those who bought tickets to the night,

and those who dug deep to buy the prizes - we raised an incredible,

record breaking….

$31,000!!!

Congratulations everyone – we are getting a new library!!!

And what a fun time everyone had on the night! The 007 costumes were fabulous, the room

looked amazing, the beverages flowing and the pizza’s were yum. The room was abuzz! Of

course, we were also there for trivia and the competition was fierce (Google who??), with the

winners of Trivia Night 2018 once again being the teachers table. Congratulations teachers –

you win – bragging rights!!

Thank you all once again for coming together to create a wonderful and successful APS

community event. So many people to thank, which we will do individually over the coming

weeks.
