• Students with any medical pre-existing condition (physical or mental) will be responsible for seeking the adequate resources to continue any treatment while they study in Madrid.

• Students may use their Sanitas Medical Insurance which is included in the tuition price. Students may contact Dr. Borrás or the SLU-Madrid Counseling Center directly before coming to Madrid at [email protected], [email protected] .

• Dr. Borrás is a general practitioner in Sanitas and he will be able to refer you to any specialist within Sanitas.

MONEYMONEY• We recommend that you obtain 50 euros (cash) BEFORE

coming to Spain to cover taxi fare -fixed 30 euros fare from airport to the city- and other incidentals

• Activate your debit/credit cards before you leave for Spain so that you will be able take access cash from ATM’s at the airport and in Madrid/Europe

• Bring a Visa card and/or a Master Card. It is really difficult in Spain to work with AMEX

• We recommend that you obtain 50 euros (cash) BEFOREcoming to Spain to cover taxi fare -fixed 30 euros fare from airport to the city- and other incidentals

AT MADRID-BARAJAS AIRPORTAT MADRID-BARAJAS AIRPORT• In the Fall and Spring sessions SLU-Madrid Staff will be

between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. in Terminal 4 to greet those students arriving at Terminal 4.

• If you arrive at any another Terminal, or at any other time, you can make your own way home from there. You do not need to go to T4 if you arrive at other terminal, nor arrive during that time slot.

• All the students are responsible for making their own way to their homes. We recommend going directly to your home on a Taxi. (30 euros fixed rate)

• We DO NOT recommend using the METRO upon arrival as transporting luggage in the metro escalators is difficult.

Be sure to carry on you the complete address of your destination

1. Fare from the airport to the city is 30 euros. Taxis cannot charge an extra fee for luggage.

2. Ask the taxi driver for a receipt: “Necesito un recibo, por favor" before getting off the taxi. This will allow you to have the taxi driver's license number in case you leave anything in the vehicle or you wish to file a complaint.

Be sure to carry on you the complete address of your destination

UNIVERSITY HOUSINGUNIVERSITY HOUSING• If you have arranged to live with a host family arranged

by the University:

• Move-In Day begins at 8 a.m. on your Arrival Day, all day long. Those who arrive early are fully responsible for their own accommodations. You may find a list of area hotels and hostels here: https://www.slu.edu/madrid/informacion-en-espanol/docs/hotels.pdf

• If a week before your official Move-In Day, you have not received the contact information for your University-arranged housing assignment, please contact Ms. Margarita Casado at [email protected]

Calle Donoso Cortés 124 Calle López de Hoyos 12Esc. Derecha, 6º A 8º Izquierda

1. The number is written after the name of the street

2. Sometimes you will have: Esc. (Escalera): Staircase, that can be A, B, etc. or Derecha, (right), Izquierda (left)

3. Then there is probably another number after that followed by this sign: º ; which stands for the floor where the apartment is: 1º, 2º, 3º, etc. (First, second, third floor, etc.)

4. And then the letter for the apartment (A,B, C, etc.) or it may also be Derecha, (right), Izquierda (left)

Buzzing into your homeBuzzing into your home• Apartment buildings in Spain have buzzers

at the main entrance to the building. In order to get the main door to the building opened you must BUZZ in.

• Usually you just look for the (escalera if there is one), the floor and the letter and buzz in the button right there.

• Others have a list of code numbers for the different apartments; you must press the code of your apartment and then press the bell icon for the buzzer to buzz in.

• Apartment buildings in Spain have buzzers at the main entrance to the building. In order to get the main door to the building opened you must BUZZ in.

MANDATORY WELCOME SESSIONSMANDATORY WELCOME SESSIONS• For Spring 2019, on Wednesday 8, January, 2020.

(On May 25 and June 29 for the Summer I and Summer II 2020 sessions)

• The schedules for the MANDATORY Welcome Sessions will be available soon and they will be emailed to you. Do not be concerned!

• Please make your travel arrangements accordingly as you are required to attend the Welcome Sessions on January 8, 2020.

• For Spring 2019, on Wednesday 8, January, 2020. (On May 25 and June 29 for the Summer I and Summer II 2020 sessions)

• You will learn about all the services and resources in SLU-Madrid;

• Student IDs and Health Insurance cards will be distributed;

• You will meet students in the same situation as yourself;

• You will be able to sign up for special Day trips and evening activities for students;

• You will be able to take Campus tours, neighborhood tours and Madrid tours with SLU-Madrid Campus Ambassadors.
