Performance art was born in New York in the 60s as the

result of cross fertilization between theater, dance, film,

video and visual art.

Some examples of performance art involved:

- Live performers interacting with filmed images projected onto surfaces

- Artists performing in front of the camera in their studios

- Artists using cameras and monitors as both theatrical props and sculptural elements in their performances (Ex: Joan Jonas)

Peter Campus – Video Art

- An American artist born in 1937 and brought up in New York

- Developed an early interest in photography, which his father taught him, and painting.

After military service, Campus studied film editing and worked in the film industry as a production manager and editor, making documentaries.

- Known for his pioneering interactive and single channel video work of the early 1970s
