Amedeo Modigliani’s “Woman with Fan” (Water Soluble Oil)Wednesdays, May 15, 22, and 28, 1–5 p.m.

Acrylic Color Workshop Saturdays, June 15 and 22, 1–5 p.m.

This acrylic class for all levels focuses on the color wheel, color theory and blending of primary colors. Students will create four small still-life paintings black and white, yellows, blues and reds with step-by-step instruction throughout the workshop.

Touch Drawing Saturdays, July 20 and 27, 1–5 p.m.

Founded by Deborah Koff-Chapin, this guided process involves drawing images on paper that has been placed over a surface of wet paint.Students will then choose one image to be mounted, colored and embellished according to their preferred medium. No experience required.

Design it. Create it. Wreck it. The ARTSpace’s LEGO collection will be used to build three-dimensional works of art and then used to inspire painting, printmaking and sculpture projects.Instructor: Marie Fielding$100 Appleton members; $120 nonmembers

meet theJEANNE BAINES: Born and raised in Ocala, Jeanne has taught art for 20 years. She is a graduate of Florida Southern College and loves painting, working in clay and making jewelry. Her goal is to uncover the artist in each of her students as she introduces them to the magical world of art.

NAOMI BALLARD: Naomi is an artist who recently relocated to Ocala. Currently, her artwork is exhibited across the United States. She has been teaching art to students ages 3 and up for over eight years and has a bachelor’s degree in studio art from the University of Minnesota, specializing in painting and printmaking.

RUTH DEXHEIMER: Ruth is an experienced, professional art teacher with a great passion for the arts. She enjoys teaching children and adults the processes for making art and ways to enthusiastically gain art history knowledge.

ALEXIS ELLIS: Alexis has been working as a potter for 15 years and occasionally as a teacher. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in ceramics and a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from the University of South Florida and spent time studying traditional ceramics in Japan. She is currently splitting her time between teaching ceramics at the Appleton and teaching art at St. John Paul Catholic School.

E. MARIE FIELDING: Marie holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Boston University and Master of Education from the University of Massachusetts with more than 35 years of experience teaching art. She is now an Education Assistant at the Appleton and is full of exciting ideas to inspire artists of all ages.

MARITZA JAUREGUI-RODRIGUEZ: Maritza graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Cuba. She has over 30 years of experience as an artist and graphic designer. Maritza has been teaching art privately and in the public schools, as well as art classes at the Appleton.

MARLA LONG: An art teacher for 18 years, Marla has shared her gifts with the Appleton on many occasions. A talented artist in her own right, she enjoys all mediums and helping children create masterpieces. A graduate of Mercer University, she teaches at College Park Elementary.

teachersMARY LOVEDAY: Mary, a native of Kentucky and long-time Ocala resident, is a graduate of Daytona State College School of Photography. Mary managed photo labs for 20 years and freelanced as an equine photographer. She also worked at the Discovery Science Center for 10 years conducting children’s science workshops and ran their summer camp programs.

MARY MOORE: With a Bachelor of Visual Arts in art education from Georgia State University and studies in the U.K. and Art Students League, New York, Mary has taught in Marion County since 1985. She enjoys teaching children of all ages and particularly loved her five years as museum educator at the Appleton.

CARMEN ROJAS-GINÉS: Carmen is a sculptor, painter and art teacher, whose artwork has been displayed at the Appleton Museum of Art. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Puerto Rico and a Masters of Arts from University of Phoenix. She has taught art in various Puerto Rican public schools and is currently teaching at St. John’s Lutheran School in Ocala.

CHEYENNE CHAPMAN RUDOLPH: An award-winning potter, as well as art historian, Cheyenne received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Murray State University, and Master of Fine Arts from the University of Florida. She has experience teaching children and adults, and makes either handbuilding or throwing on the pottery wheel a fun and successful experience.

TASHA STRIGLE: Tasha is a Messiah College graduate and Florida art teacher. Her teaching experience ranges from pre-k to adults. She currently shares her passion for art and lifelong learning with middle school students.

MICHEL YEUELL: Michel is an experienced visual and theatrical arts educator and a lifelong learner with multiple degrees. She has designed sets, costumes and props for multiple theatrical companies, and famously made the bull costume for the movie “Bull Durham”. She currently teaches art at Dunnellon Elementary.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP: Summer Art Camp uses the doors to the right of the main entrance for pick up and drop off. In respect of our instructors’ time and other incoming classes, please do not drop off your children more than 10 minutes prior to the start of camp and do not pick up later than 10 minutes after camp ends. The person picking up the camper must be on the approval list and show photo I.D. when doing so.

ENROLLMENT: Enrollment is taken on a first-come, first-served basis. To guarantee a place in camp, payment must be received in full at the time of enrollment. Camps are limited to 16 students unless otherwise noted.

FULL DAY: When enrolling in a morning and afternoon camp to create a full day, don’t forget to pack a lunch and a drink. Appleton staff will supervise lunch between camp sessions.

REFUNDS: Registration cancellation and request for a refund must be submitted no less than one week prior to first day of enrolled art camp. Refunds will be issued via check, regardless of original method of payment. The Appleton Museum of Art reserves the right to cancel any camp if the minimum enrollment is not met. Refunds will be processed at the time of cancellation.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Tuition assistance for children is available through the Appleton Scholarship Program. Funds will be awarded based on financial need. VOLUNTEER: Teaching assistant positions with the Appleton’s Summer Art Camp are for those interested in art and working with children, and are 18 years and older. If you would like to become a volunteer art camp teaching assistant, contact Griselle Gonzalez-Vazquez, [email protected], or 352-291-4455, ext. 1836. All volunteers must submit a volunteer application and undergo a Level II background check before volunteering can begin.

WHAT’S INCLUDED: Camp tuition includes a daily snack and one art camp T-shirt. Additional shirts can be purchased for $10. If your child has special dietary needs or allergies, please specify on the enrollment form.
