What’s new? Design Enhancements

• CAD Preflight… A tool to inspect a structural design for anomalies that affect downstream processes such as die making and press run is now available. This tool is intended to reduce errors and communication cycles between design and production.

Nearly 60 different rules can be configured into a CAD preflight profile to create a corrugated or folding carton workflow.

2

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

The user can determine which rules can in appear in a profile, what values will trigger the detection of an anomaly and at what severity level the rule will be reported. The user can also determine the sort order for anomalies.

3

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

The profile is self-describing. Pictures and rich descriptions describing the importance of the rule, make it easy to determine what a user will want to scan for.

A search utility is provided to help the user find rules of interest.

Some rules consist of tables so that different values can trigger detection at different values.

4

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

A profile is defined in defaults.

Preflight can also verify what Slotter/scorers (Flexo-Folder-Gluers) can produce an RSC. The design is preflighted to first ensure it meets certain characteristics of an RSC (for example no offset creases) and that it finds the converting equipment with the min/maxes that can accommodate the design.

5

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

The user experience (UX) starts with an ability to select from a list of profiles.

6

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

Slotter-Scorer equipment can be selected in conjunction with a profile if the Slotter-scorer rule is enabled within the profile.

The design is scanned and all anomalies are reported in the anomaly list and highlighted around the design feature.

The user can navigate around the design and select a highlighted region. The corresponding anomaly in the list will also be highlighted. The reverse is true as well. The user can navigate up and down the anomaly list and the design feature will be highlighted.

7

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

The user can zoom in on a particular anomaly within the design.

Details about the anomaly are presented to the user to help describe the anomaly.

Hovering over the anomaly node will reveal a description of the importance of correcting the anomaly.

8

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

The user can change the profile in defaults. Or, the user can use any editing tool to make changes while preflight is still active. When the refresh button is clicked, the user can see a new anomaly list.

Some designs get very complicated and different anomalies appear for different reasons. The Inspect outline tool can be used to show the outline ArtiosCAD followed when detecting anomalies. This outline can be used to further detect anomalies when perhaps the

If the user needs further help on how to use the CAD preflight, select the help button.

9

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

If the user want to change profiles or see the values used to trigger the current anomaly list in the current profile, select the Profile: profile button and the (…) button respectively. Display profile settings (which also appears in the <rt-click> popup menu) will open to the page that contains the rule configuration for the anomaly.

If the node is a slotter-scorer machine, the machine mix/max page will appear.

10

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

An RSC can use a partial die inline. This means RSCs can be scanned for issues beyond min/maxes. If no partial die used, a hole is an anomaly. If a partial inline die is used, a hole would not be an anomaly.

11

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

In order to satisfy customer requirements, some anomalies have to be the way the feature is designed. In those cases, the user can “accept” the anomaly. The anomaly is flagged as such and the user has the option to enter a comment and show the accepted anomalies in the list.

12

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

The underlying geometry for an accepted anomaly is remembered in the workspace so that the next time the file is opened and preflighted, the user does not have to accept the anomaly again. If the anomaly would still exist with a different profile, it will still be considered accepted within the context of the new profile.

The profile last run is also remembered in the workspace.

13

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

The anomaly list panel can be unpinned so that it can be hidden away. Or it can be removed from its docking area and freely float.

The first time a designer starts CAD preflight, the option to opt-in for analytics will appear. The user does not have to opt-in, but if the user does, information about how CAD preflight is used is stored in the Esko cloud for future reporting. No information about the design name, acceptance string nor design features are stored.

The user will also be reminded to create profiles in defaults.

Layout Enhancements

• Use of the Double Knife removal tool is possible with the Layout module.

Manufacturing Enhancements

General Enhancements Infrastructure Enhancements

• Multilingual (UTF support)- Previously ArtiosCAD could only support characters in a given language of the installed operating system. Characters in languages that differed from the language of the operating system, could not be displayed. That is no longer the case. Characters from different languages can be displayed in the same running ArtiosCAD 18.1.

o Files created in 18.1 with mixed characters can be opened in earlier versions of ArtiosCAD and are still backward compatible. Characters that are generated outside the code page of the operating system the earlier version is running on will not be displayed, but that has always been true of ArtiosCAD.

o Files create in earlier versions of ArtiosCAD can be opened in 18.1 and therefore forwards compatibility is maintained. Characters written in the code page of the operating system the design was saved on can be reproduced.

• The default port for the Flexnet License Manager is automatically specified during

installation so network interruptions can be reduced, improving overall performance. In addition the user can change the port.

• Network performance should also be improved with improved trusted store validation.

20

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

• The number of custom toolbars a user can create is now larger than 30. Note that switching between documents will take longer when there are a large number of custom toolbars. That number is system dependent based on the performance capability of the machine. The theoretical maximum is 150 across all defaults levels.

Integration Enhancements

• ArtiosCAD menus can now be extended with plug-ins. Configuring a menu plug-in allows the menus to be extended with customized executables. The configuration below will output the same XML as Outputs > Artios > Canvas > Canvas Job Bill of Materials when the plugin is run from a canvas document.

View Enhancements

• Cases where toolbars may not be redrawn due to performance impediments has been improved.

Enterprise

• An enterprise user who is also a project creator but not a project manager or admin (as configured in WebCenter) will be able to create projects in ArtiosCAD.

21

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

• The revision letter is displayed for oneups in manufacturing files. See View > Item Labels > Use file names

• Saving a design that was derived from an ARD or ACD will seed to the source design's project

• When publishing a new revision of a linked document, user can differentiate between add and update when deciding if other BOMs need to be modified.

• ArtiosCAD Enterprise client and WebCenter interoperability:

• ArtiosCAD 18.1 may be used with WebCenter 18.1.

• ArtiosCAD 18.1 may be used with WebCenter 18.0.1 except for project creator role

• ArtiosCAD 18.0.1 may be used with WebCenter 18.1

• Esko now provides a knowledge base at http://help.esko.com/knowledgebase. This site can be used to find detailed information for ArtiosCAD and other Esko products about many support questions raised to Esko.

• Flexnet is the only licensing system utilized in ArtiosCAD. Users must be prepared to convert the licensing from the hardware key, Sentinel LM or Elan LM to Flexnet. As of Jan 2016, Esko will no longer be able to provide licenses for legacy licensing systems.

• If the deployed licensing for ArtiosCAD is a network license, the license server *must* be updated with the new system controller provided on the installation media.

• Esko software can be downloaded from https://mysoftware.esko.com with a valid support account.

• User documentation and help will be available from an online Esko site. Documentation will not be available from the media. The main site is http://help.esko.com from which ArtiosCAD and other Esko product documentation is available. The ArtiosCAD help menu will bring the user to the ArtiosCAD help page.

• The most current Adobe®Illustrator® Esko plugins can be found at http://www.esko.com. Navigate as described below.

• Windows 10 editions has been certified for use with ArtiosCAD 18.0.1 as a standard

mouse-controlled application. There are some installation limitations. See https://wiki.esko.com/display/KBA/KB174658159%3A+ArtiosCAD+-+Install+Standard+Edition+with+Database+on+Windows+10

• Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 have been certified for use with ArtiosCAD 16. 1 as a standard mouse-controlled application. There are Metro GUI limitations:

o The application folder structure organized in previous versions of windows 8 has been flattened. There will be multiple application tiles.

o There is no support for touchpads nor touchscreens and any use of gestures is purely coincidental.

• Windows 7 has been certified for use with ArtiosCAD 18.01.1 with notes.

o The use of AeroPeek seems to confuse USB mice and will unexpectedly move the pointer to unintended locations.

o Avoid use of the Windows 7 magnify tool.

• The IOServer (ArtiosIO) is now supported on Windows 7 and higher since Artioscad 14. 1. This means older DataTech plotters still using the IPC controller or any device with an RS232 connection will be supported

• Many users have or are planning to deploy Citrix, Terminal Services (TS) environments or some other application hosting system. Esko has not officially certified ArtiosCAD for use in a Citrix or TS environment, however, Esko does not prevent its use as long as the customer accepts responsibility for deployment and support of the environment.

Esko has verified that ArtiosCAD 18.0.1 can run as a Citrix or Terminal Services client and has licensed ArtiosCAD 18.0.1 appropriately, however, there are some limitations, including but not limited to:

• Flexnet network licensing must be used.

• License reservation or denial via floating license servers is not supported.

• Graphics cards are installed on a Citrix or TS server and ArtiosCAD 3D uses the server card for 3D rendering. The performance of many concurrent 3D users is unknown.

• The exact server specifications (example, memory, processor) for a given set of clients is unknown.

• There are essentially no user defaults, since every Citrix or TS client is running from the same Citrix server.

• There have been reports that access to local devices like hard drives or printers can freeze the machine. It is unknown if these issues have been addressed in newer versions of Citrix.

• The HASP key used for the Alma PowerNest software in the ArtiosCAD rubbering layout can not be recognized by Citrix or TS and must be used on a client not connected to the Citrix server.

• 64-bit Citrix has not been tested in any way.

• Many users are planning to deploy VMWare ESX-based solutions, Hyper V (Windows Server Virtualization), Citrix XenServer or other hypervisor technology. Esko has not officially certified ArtiosCAD for use in this environment, however, Esko does not prevent its use as long as the customer accepts responsibility for deployment and support of the environment.

• Artioscad 18.0.1 has been certified for VMware Fusion v7. The customer may run later versions of his own accord on hardware and OS of his choosing, but Esko provideds no warranty of the resulting combination. The preferred 3D rendering mode is OpenGL but use Direct3D in the event of unforeseen issues. Virtualized 3D rendering will not provide the same performance as native hardware.

• For native windows applications, the 3D Rendering Option is recommended to be set

to OpenGL for full 3D functionality. Use of OpenGL for Bitmaps should also be enabled.

• 3D graphics cards… newer computers often come with some form of switchable graphics technology. This means that there are two or more video cards that switch off doing rendering duties on the system. Because of this, it is entirely possible that

27

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

ArtiosCAD will be run using the low end, power saving chip. This drastically lowers performance, and may introduce issues when working within ArtiosCAD 3D. It is sometimes also possible that the current chip changes, which can lead to all sorts of stability issues. It is recommended that the user go to the control panel controlling the graphics cards (NVidia Control Panel or AMD Catalyst Control Center) and create a profile for ArtiosCAD so it will use the high end chip always.

This is an example and is for windows 7.

A number of rendering issues with NVidia cards and openGL have been raised. Changes were made to what is believed to be an improvement in the error handling of newer NVidia cards particularly those with dual graphic cards.

• Since its inception, Artioscad has provided a database schema that has always been backwards compatible with previous versions of Artioscad and 3rd party applications. An ArtiosCAD enterprise edition has now been released and utilizes a new database backend (WebCenter). It is expected that the database functionality for the conventional ArtiosCAD edition will be frozen at its current level. New design

28

A R T I O S C A D 1 8 . 1 R E L E A S E N O T E S

functionality will continue to be added. It is expected that a single database edition will be created in the future.

• Automatic fold-up of an ARD to populate a 3D file window of the same number only works for U3D when the design file window and the 3D file window are both numbered one, and there are no other 3D file windows.

29
